Chapter Twenty-Six

Two Months later…

Elizabeth Webber sets in her studio staring at her most recent painting, not bothering to wipe the single tear that traces down her cheek away. She can’t believe that it’s been two months since she last saw Lucky. She sighed as the deep ache returned to her heart at the thought of him. They had been so happy…they were going to get married. Then they had gotten kidnapped, but at least they were together then. Nothing bad could happen as long as they were together. Then Faison had come with his guns and his threats and now Elizabeth was all alone again, wondering if Lucky was safe or even still alive.

"You captured him perfectly. But I shouldn’t be surprised. You always were able to capture people on paper," Nikolas peers down at the portrait of his brother as he approaches her.

Elizabeth sighed and tossed the drawing aside. "But it’s not him. No matter how many times I draw his picture it never will bring him back to me."

Nikolas kneels down and wraps his arms around her. "He will come back Liz. If he promised you he’d make it back to you, he will. Lucky never broke a promise."

"But it’s been two months Nikolas!"

"So it’s taking a little longer. It took him a whole year last time. Remember?"

"But I don’t think I can make another year without him," Elizabeth sniffed. "I’m dying here and there’s nothing I can do."

Nikolas eyes tear up as he sees the unshed tears shining in Elizabeth’s gaze, her red lips trembling with a terrible grief that Nikolas hoped that he would never have to experience.

"I want him back Nikolas. I want him back so much," Elizabeth bursts into tears. She clings to Nikolas as he tightens his embrace and buries her face into the soft fabric of his sweater. Neither noticed Emily and Juan entering.

"Liz?" Emily’s voice was full of concern. She’s been worried about Liz ever since she returned without Lucky. She’s been in a total state of depression ever since. Not answering Em’s phone calls and refusing to leave her room.

"She’ll be fine. She’s just a little depressed right now," Nikolas glances up at her. "Do you have any news about Lucky?"

"Sorry," Emily shrugs. "Jason and the Scorpios haven’t found in leads yet."

"I wish there was something I could do to help," Elizabeth pulls away from Nikolas. If only I can remember what Faison had said…any clues of where he might have taken Lucky…"

"But there’s not. There’s no use dwelling on it now," Nikolas squeezed her shoulder. "The only thing we can do is wait and hope that Lucky comes out of this unharmed."

Luke and Robert stand outside of Sonny’s private plane, once again going over the plans to search another one of Faison’s hideouts. So far they’ve been to over five and still no sign of Lucky.

"I’m beginning to think we’re chasing ghosts here," Luke sighed in frustration. He was hoping to have had Lucky home two months ago. The second compound seemed so promising when one of Sonny’s sources had called and reported a long-haired man escorting a teenaged boy into the compound, but by time Luke and Robert had arrived there was no sigh of neither Faison nor Lucky. Now they’re on their way to another compound somewhere in the depths of the South American jungle. Hopefully this will pan out a lot better.

"Faison’s holding him somewhere Luke. We’re bound to find them sooner or later," Robert comforted his friend. "Faison can’t hide from us forever."

Neither men noticed the assassin not more than twenty yards away, hiding in a dark corner of one of the deserted warehouses. He had specific orders. Kill Robert Scorpio and take out any witnesses. The assassin firmly aims the gun and waits until the right moment. He smiles, knowing that Scorpio was going to pay for what he did and he wouldn’t have a chance to harm anyone else.

"Hey I’ll be back. I’m going to go check with Sonny on these forms here. Don’t want to run into any trouble with the feds," Luke pats Roberts shoulder, heading towards Sonny who’s just standing just outside another building talking into his cellphone.

The gunman smile widens, satisfied that Luke Spencer had left Robert alone. Now was the perfect time to finish the job and not worry about having to shoot anyone else. He takes aim and begins to pull the trigger.

Sonny has just hung up the phone, and Luke has just reached him when both spots the dark figure aiming a high-powered rifle in Robert’s direction.

"Johnny!" Sonny yells heading for the assassin, Luke running right along with him, both determined to reach the gunman before he has a chance to take a shot.

It’s Johnny that tackles the gunman first, just as the gun goes off, missing Robert Scorpio by inches.

"What was that!" Robert joins the three men five seconds later as they gather around the gunman struggling against Johnny’s strong hold, they have yet to see his face.

"Who is it? Who would want to hurt Robert?" Sonny asked.

"Let’s find out," Luke pushes Johnny aside and gasps when he finally sees the gunman’s face. His eyes widen in horror, disbelief, happiness, and confusion. "Lucky?"
