Chapter
Eight
Nikolas nervously paces the room while Lucky and Liz laid curled
up on the bed. Lucky was sleeping restlessly while Liz just laid next to him
and watched him, stroking his hair, hoping to calm him.
"I wonder what he’s been through," She sighed, laying
her head against the propped up pillow.
"No telling. Helena’s capable of anything," Nikolas
answered. "Did you really have to call Jason?"
"Who would you rather I call Nikolas? Edward Quartermaine?
Jason’s the only one that can keep this quiet."
"Speak of the devil," Nikolas grumbled when the there
was a knock on the door. "The borg has arrived."
"Nikolas please, be nice. He’s my friend and Lucky’s friend
as well. He helped Lucky when no one else would so give him a break,"
Elizabeth hops down from the bed and goes to answer the door.
"Jason!" She exclaims, her smile fades when she sees Carly standing
behind him, her arms crossed. "Carly?"
"Sorry to disappoint you but you won’t be getting Jason alone
after all," Carly smiles nastily.
"Carly remember our agreement," Jason warns, turning to
glare at his girlfriend.
"So! What was so big that you needed to call my boyfriend and
ask him to come…" Carly leaves off as she pushes pass Elizabeth and steps
into the room to see Lucky sleeping on the bed. "Is that who I think it
is?"
"Good going Jason!" Nikolas growls. "Elizabeth
trusted you to keep this secret and you go and bring your loud mouth
girlfriend."
"She forced me to bring her ok," Jason stares at Lucky.
"Mind if I ask what’s going on here?"
Elizabeth closes the door quickly. "Well you probably already
guessed who my friend in trouble was."
"The fire was a set up by my grandmother and this man named
Cesar Faison. My uncle told me Lucky was alive, so of course I went to tell
Liz. We overheard Helena say that Lucky had escaped so we left to find him. We
tracked him to Paris, where Faison caught up with us. I made him crash the car
and while Faison was out we ran back here to the hotel and has been here ever
since. Oh yeah, Faison stole my plane and made it crash so it’d look like Liz
and I were killed. He was going to do to us what he did to Lucky," Nikolas
explained. "Against my better judgement, Liz called you, thinking you were
the only person who can secretly get us back to Port Charles and protect my
brother. I see I was right and she was wrong."
"Hey, I forced him to bring me anyway," Carly stands up
for Jason. "Mama goings to be ecstatic when she finds out that Lucky’s
alive."
"Carly no one can know. Not yet. Maybe Luke and Laura but
that’s it," Elizabeth sighs.
"Who died and made you boss?"
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Unlike you, I care whether Lucky
lives or dies and so those Nikolas."
"Helena’s probably looking for him right now," Jason strokes his chin
deep in thought, interrupting the coming catfight.
"Her partner is definitely looking for all three of us,"
Nikolas rolls his eyes.
"Nikolas, why don’t you wake Lucky up and have him put on
your clothes. Change clothes yourself and Carly, let Liz borrow one of the
dresses you brought along."
"What? Loan her one of my dresses?"
"You said you wanted to help," Jason reminds her.
Carly sighs. "Ok fine."
"I’ll be back. I have to make some purchases," Jason
walks out the door, Nikolas glares after him. "Already he’s taking
charge."
"Nikolas we don’t have time for that ok? Lucky needs us to
work together. Ok," Elizabeth sighs in frustration. "Believe me, this
isn’t easy for me either."
"Come on, let’s get this over with," Carly pushes
Elizabeth into the restroom as Nikolas wakes Lucky to get him into his clothes.
After one hour, Jason had returned with a bag of baseball caps and
eyeglasses.
"Well what did you get?" Carly goes to him.
"Sunglasses and hats. Put these on, check out, and we’ll be
on our way," Jason holds the bag on.
Down in the lobby, Elizabeth stops when she spots Faison and his
men.
"Stay calm," Nikolas whispers to her. "Don’t let on
that you know them," He leads Liz to the desk while Carly and Jason take
Lucky to the car that Jason had rented.
Five minutes later, Nikolas and Liz were in the car, settin on
each side of Lucky who has fallen back to sleep. It’s been a long year for all
three of them.
"Don’t worry Lucky. We’re homefree," Elizabeth whispered
in his ear, kissing his forehead.
"Elizabeth?" Lucky opens his eyes, fully awake for the
first time. Everything elsed seemed like a dream from changing into Nikolas’s
clothes to boarding the plane. "Where are we?"
"Jason’s plane. We’re on our way back to port Charles,"
She gently strokes his hair.
"Jason? Jason’s here?"
"You practically slept through everything," Nikolas
comes and sets by his brother. I had to practically dress you myself."
"The pilot said two more hours and we’re back in PC,"
Jason and Carly enter the cabin from the cockpit. "Lucky you’re
awake."
"Hey cuz," Carly smiles. "Good to see you back in
the land of the living."
"Carly? Who else is in there?" Lucky looks into the
cockpit.
"No one except the pilot," Jason laughs.
"Who else knows?" Lucky looks at Nikolas questioningly.
"Just us four and Stefan. And that’s the way it will remain
unless you say otherwise," Nikolas takes his brother’s hand. "You’re
safe now Lucky."
Lucky sighed and leaned back against the couch, looking at the
ceiling. Safe. That was one thing he’ll probably never be again. Not truly
anyway. As long as Helena Cassadine and Cesar Faison existed, he’ll never truly
be safe again.
