Chapter Four

It was a long flight, but they finally made it to Greece. Elizabeth yawns, jet lag setting in.

"Ok Nikolas. Where do we start? Do you think he may have come here?"

Nikolas shakes his head. "Don’t know. I say we ask around. You have that picture?"

"Right here," Elizabeth holds it up.

"Ok. Let’s go to the commercial flight and then see what we come up with."

So for two hours they walk around the airport flashing Lucky’s picture, asking if anyone has seen him or someone resembling him, but they come up empty.

"We’re never going to find him," Elizabeth wipes the tears from her eyes.

"Come on. We’ll catch a cab and head for a hotel. We’ll search again tomorrow. Right now we’re tired and we’re not getting very much done tonight."

Elizabeth just nods and follows Nikolas outside. Two minutes later they’re inside a taxi. They ride in silence til they reach the hotel Nikolas had made reservations at. They get out when Elizabeth gets a idea.

"Sir excuse me, but we’re looking for a friend of ours. Here’s his picture. Have you seen him?" She hands Lucky’s picture to the stout man.

"Oh Yes. I remember this kid. Very nervous fellow. Kept looking out the back window as if someone was after him. Poorly dressed, but tipped very well."

"Did he tell you his name?" Nikolas asked, his eyes widening, finally they were on to something.

"Lorenzo Vining I think it was," The man nods. "Nice kid he was. Nice kid. Too bad that he was so far away from home."

"Where was he heading?" Elizabeth asked.

"Didn’t say. He just asked me to let him off at the trainstation. He went in and that was the last I saw of him."

"Take us there," Nikolas gets back in the car, followed by Elizabeth. "By the way, how long ago was this?"

"A couple of days ago," The man shrugs.

One hour later they’re at the trainstation that Lucky had used. After thanking and paying the man they enter the station.

"Ok. We’ll do what we did at the plane station. We ask everyone, showing them the picture. Remember, he’s traveling alias."

Elizabeth nods and they split up. Two hours later, they meet back up at the last desk, the only one they haven’t checked yet.

"Nothing," Elizabeth sighed in frustration. "Nikolas where did he go?!"

"Let’s ask that man over there. Niether of us has been there yet," Nikolas heads for the desk.

"Excuse us sir. We’re looking for a friend of ours. Have you seen this man?" Nikolas hold up the picture.

"Sorry sir, can’t give out that information. Company policy," The man continues typing on his computer.

"How about if we pay for the information," Nikolas holds up a hand full of one hundred dollar bills.

The man’s eyes widen. He obviously never seen that much money in one hand before. "He was here yesterday. Brought a ticket for a train to Paris France. Left early this morning. Name was Leo Capri. Had a lot of money on him for someone dressed so poorly."

"We’ll take two tickets for the train," Nikolas adds more money to the money he held in his fist. "Thank you."

"Better hurry. Next train leaving in five minutes," The man looks at his watch.

"Thank you," Elizabeth smiles, pulling Nikolas along as she runs for the door marked Paris.

Lucky looks out the scenery as the train moves along. He sighs, going over the past day’s events. Lifting all that money from Faison while he was sleeping was a stroke of Luck. Next time the man won’t carry so much on him. He takes out the picture of Elizabeth and sighs. He knew he was never going to see her again. If he returned to port charles, Helena would be waiting for him. He wouldn’t even get a glance of her. So the smart thing was to forget Port Charles and the people he left behind. Once he got back to the states, choose a permanent alias and start over with his life…no matter how heart breaking it was.

All he had left now was memories. And that was going to have to do him. Sighing one last time he drifted off to sleep. Dreaming of his last hours with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth sighs and lays her head against Nikolas’s shoulder. "Nikolas…do you think Lucky still loves me?"

"Of course he does. Why wouldn’t he?"

Elizabeth shrugged. "I don’t know. You know I can’t shake the feeling that there was something I could have done to help him sooner. That there was some kind of clue I missed or something…"

"Liz don’t. You’ve done all you could do. Like us, you thought he was dead. Besides, if there’s really any one to blame it’s me. It was my grandmother that kidnapped him. I’m sorry Elizabeth. I’m sorry for all the pain my family has caused you."

"It wasn’t your fault Nikolas. Lucky would say the same thing you know. It’s not your fault."

Nikolas nods and sighs. He looks down at his hands. "So when we do find Lucky, and bring him home…you’re breaking it off with Jason right?"

"Nikolas, Jason and I are just friends. That’s all. Why is that so hard for everyone to understand?"

"It’s not…but…you two did…"

"We didn’t. I just let you believe we did because that was what you wanted to believe. You wouldn’t listen to anything else," Elizabeth shrugged. "So there’s nothing to break off. And I really doubt that Lucky would want me to end a friendship just because he came back. In fact, we may need Jason and Sonny’s help in keeping Lucky safe from Helena."

"You think Lucky would want to see us much less come back with us?" Nikolas asked. "There’s no telling what Helena did to him."

"I think he will once we talk to him and find a safe way to smuggle him back into port charles without Helena knowing."

"First thing first. Finding him in Paris. It’s a huge city Elizabeth. It’s not going to be easy."

"I know that," Elizabeth rolls her eyes. "But we will find him. You know why? Because Lucky and I are connected. He’ll know to stay put until I can find him."

Nikolas laughed. "You know how corny that sounds?"

"Shut up!" Elizabeth laughs, punching Nikolas’s arm.

"Ow that hurt," He sniffed playfully.

"Poor baby," Elizabeth pats his head. "You know…I’ve missed this Nikolas. This friendly teasing. It feels like old times. Back when we were the four musketeers, before the fire."

"I missed it too Liz. I’m sorry…I’m sorry things had to change so drastically. I guess the loss of Lucky was just too much for the musketeers to withstand. Emily has Juan now and that kind of froze us out, then we got into it about Jason…"

"Now here we are again, looking for the third musketeer. Maybe the fourth will come back to the fold too some day," Elizabeth squeezed Nikolas’s hand. She knew just how much he missed Emily and how he resented Juan for taking her away…almost as much as he resented Jason. Maybe Lucky’s return will bring them all back together. Only time will tell.
