Chapter Two

Nikolas found Elizabeth wiping down a table in the practically empty diner where she works. Usually it was packed, but today, because of the all star game at the high school, the place was empty.

"Liz," Nikolas greats coming in and taking her hand leading her over to the counter. "We need to talk."

"Nikolas?" Elizabeth stares at him like he has two heads. They were once really good friends, but since Elizabeth’s association with the mobster Jason Morgan, her and Nikolas have grown apart, in fact they barely get along anymore because everytime she turns around, Nikolas was warning her away from Jason. "If this is about Jason Morgan again…"

"No. This has nothing to do with Jason. It’s Lucky."

"Lucky?"

Nikolas nods. "Listen, I know this sounds crazy and when I heard it, I couldn’t believe my ears so my uncle showed me tapes he lifted from Helena’s compound…"

"Nikolas what are you talking about? You said this was about lucky…not stefan," Elizabeth is getting impatient.

"He’s alive Elizabeth…Lucky is alive."

Elizabeth takes a step away from Nikolas, convinced that he has lost his mind. "What?"

"Stefan called me to Wyndemere. He told me that Helena was holding Lucky captive. I didn’t believe at first. Then he showed me this tape showing Lucky in this steel gray room, playing chess with this man."

"Nikolas…are you telling that that body in the fire last year wasn’t Lucky? That is was all a set up?"

Nikolas nods. "It’s the truth Elizabeth. I swear."

"Excuse me!" Carly Benson, Bobbie Spencer’s daughter comes in. Her and Elizabeth hated each other. Mainly because Carly was jealous of Elizabeth’s relationship with Jason. "You have a customer here!"

"Well you can wait!" Nikolas snaps. He had no time for Carly’s little tandrums. "Liz please…you have to believe me."

"Excuse me! I believe my mother is paying you to wait on customers! Not flirt with them!"

"Listen. We’ll talk about this on the docks ok? That way we can talk about this with no interruptions. Nikolas…I have to be honest…I don’t know whether to believe this or not."

"You’re afraid I’m using this to get you away from Jason don’t you?"

"Well isn’t it?"

Nikolas swallows his hurt. "Elizabeth…I know I’ve used a lot of things to get you away from Jason…but Lucky…I’d never use him. He’s too important to us both to use him to break up your friendship with Jason."

Elizabeth sighs. "I’ll see you tonight. We’ll discuss it then."

"ok. Fine. I’ll meet you eight," Nikolas nods, leaving the restaurant, hoping against hope that Liz believed him.
