Chapter
One:
Stefan Cassadine paces his office, waiting for his nephew to
arrive. His mind is still reeling from his most recent discovery when he went
to visit his mother in Greece. This was big, huge really. This was going to
change all their lives, his especially. He didn’t dare tell Laura. The news
would make her happy, but what if something happened? It would devastate her.
But Nikolas…he was strong and resilient. He’d be able to take the news, even if
it didn’t pan out in the end. No, he had learnt his lesson the first time he
lied to his nephew. He’d be up front now.
"Uncle?" Nikolas Cassadine, future heir to the Cassadine
fortune enters the room, his brown eyes shining with confusion. He was at his
cottage enjoying a interesting mystery when Stefan had called him and told him
to come over right away. He said it was urgent and the news couldn’t wait.
"What is this all about?"
Stefan goes to his nephew and directs him to his chair behind his
desk. "Set down Nikolas. I have some news for you. It’s about your brother
Lucky."
"Lucky?" Nikolas furrows his brow. Lucky’s been dead for
a full year now. He and Elizabeth were just beginning to heal and move on with
their lives. What can be so important that Stefan wanted to tell him about
Lucky?
"Yes. Set down."
Nikolas nods and sinks into the pulsh chair. "Now tell me.
What is this all about?"
Stefan sighs and stands straight. He stares Nikolas straight in
the eye. "He’s alive Nikolas. I saw him. In one of Helena’s compounds. I
went there to get some information, Helena of course didn’t know I was there. I
was curious because this was one of her newer compounds. I found myself in the
monitor room, where each room is recorded. There I saw your brother Lucky. It
looked as if he was practicing the game of chess."
"What? Uncle, are you telling me that my brother is alive?
And that Helena has him locked up in some compound…playing chess?"
Stefan grimly nods. "I know it sounds hard to believe. That’s
why I lifted some of her most recent tapes. I’m sure she has him recorded on
one of these." Stefan goes to his television with a built in vcr. He
stuffs the tape in and plays it. At first it’s just pictures of empty rooms.
Then Nikolas gasps when he sees Lucky, bent over a table with a older man with
long hair, playing the game of chess.
"It’s important to protect your queen Lucky," the man
was saying.
"Yes," Was Lucky’s simple answer.
"Now do you believe me?" Stefan stares Nikolas, who’s
face was growing paler by the minute.
"He’s alive. He’s really alive," Nikolas whispered, his
voice full of wonder. "W-where is he? Did you get him out?"
"I had no time Nikolas. Helena was on her way back. I had to
get out of there immediately."
"How about Laura…Luke…do they know?"
"No. It’s best that we wait until Lucky is safe before
telling her. And Spencer…he’d end up getting the boy killed than anything else.
But I knew you’d want to know."
"Well we have to do something Uncle! We can’t let them keep
him there! The police! We have to call the police!"
"I highly do not recommend that. Like Luke, the police will
get Lucky killed. Besides, with how incompetent they are, There’s nothing they
can do for him."
"Then what do we do uncle? I can’t let grandmother and her
lackey there keep my brother hostage! Don’t tell Luke! Don’t tell the police!
What can I do?!"
"The decision is yours Nikolas. You have the knowledge. How
you choose to use it is up to you. Those were just my advice. If you want to go
to Luke, or the police…that’s your decision," Stefan folds his hands.
Nikolas nods then gets to his feet. His decision made. "Well
thank you for this information Stefan," He gets up and heads for the door.
"Nikolas! Where are you going?!"
"Kelly’s. Elizabeth would want to know this," Nikolas
sighs. "From there, then I’ll make up my mind what to do."
Stefan just nods and watches his nephew leave, hoping that he
doesn’t do something stupid. Like going after Lucky himself.
