Chapter Eight
The babies cries got louder as he got closer, begging for him to
reach them in time…before she returned. Soon he’s with them. One a blond
blue-eyed baby with fair skin and the other a light brown baby with coal black
hair and serious brown eyes.
"Don’t worry," I won’t let the wicked witch get
you," he kissed the forehead of each child and turned to leave the room
when he came face to face with the woman herself.
"Give them to me," Her hands reached out like claws.
"Give them to me now Lucas and I’ll let the other’s go."
"No!" Lucky backed away and tightly held onto each baby.
"Give them to me."
Lucky shook his head and backed further away. But it was of no use. No matter
how tightly he was holding on to them, Helena effortlessly snatched each baby
away from him.
"That wasn’t so hard now was it," Helena grinned evilly.
"Give them back!" Lucky cried out, reaching for the
children again.
"Good bye sweet prince," Helena softly stroke the head
of the brown skinned baby that reminded him so much of his brother before
plunging a silvery knife into it’s chest cutting off it’s cries.
"No!!!"
"And say good-bye to Luke’s precious grandson. Too bad he’ll
never meet you," Helena did the same to the blond baby.
"No!! No!! No!"
"No!"
Lucky bolted upright in bed. Looking around he’s relieved to find himself in
the room he shared with Elizabeth and her sleeping peacefully next to him.
It’s
been two months since they’ve been on the run from Helena and ever since the
same dream haunts him. The only person who knew of these nightmares was
Elizabeth.
"Another
nightmare?" Elizabeth touched his shoulder in concern.
"They’re
getting more vivid Elizabeth…this time I actually touched them. I could feel
their little hearts beating," Lucky broke down in tears.
"Shhh
Lucky. It was just a dream. It didn’t mean anything."
"Then
why do I keep dreaming it!"
"I
don’t know," Elizabeth hugged him to herself, trying to comfort him the
best way she could. "Lucky listen to me. There are no babies. Helena can’t
hurt them."
Lucky
only looked at her and shook his head. "The dreams mean something
Elizabeth…they have to."
"Shhh.
Go back to sleep," Elizabeth urges him back down onto the bed, cuddling up
closer to him. "Everything’s going to be alright. I promise."
"I
hope you’re right Elizabeth. I hope you’re right," Lucky sighed, drifting
off into a dreamless slumber.
*
The
following afternoon. The boys have gone out looking for work while the girls
stayed in the house. Gia and Elizabeth were both gathered in Emily’s room.
"What
if our suspicions are correct?" Gia asked. "Won’t this put a crimp in
our plans…especially with the both of us being…"
"Shhh,
we don’t know for sure yet," Elizabeth sighed nervously. "I just hope
Lucky and Nikolas won’t be too angry with us…especially Lucky."
"Why
would Lucky be mad?" Emily asked, trying to keep the jealousy out of her
voice. Here Gia and Elizabeth were, both possibly pregnant and Emily was
nowhere near. She guessed she should be thankful. But still, she couldn’t help
feeling a little left out.
"I
don’t know," Elizabeth lied. She knew perfectly well Lucky wouldn’t be
happy because of his nightmares he’s been getting lately.
"Ok.
This test is only ten minutes. We should know if we’re in the family way when
the stick turns pink. Ok? Ready?" Gia read the instructions. Elizabeth
nodded trying to compose herself for a life changing answer.
Ten
minutes later both Gia and Elizabeth look at their sticks.
"Well?"
Emily asked expectantly. "What’s the answer?"
"It’s
pink," both Gia and Elizabeth sigh at the same time.
"Nikolas
is going to freak," Gia shook her head.
"Lucky
is going to explode," Elizabeth sighed.
"I’m
going to be a godmother," Emily smiled happily.
"We
tell them as soon as they come in. We can’t put it off," Gia layed down
her stick. "Hey…wait a minute…I remember Laura telling me that Helena
hated me because I could possibly give Nikolas a heir…meaning that Nikolas will
come into his fortune as soon as the baby is born…"
"Meaning
we can go home!" Elizabeth squealed with excitement, hugging Gia tightly.
Even though Grams was dead, she missed Bobbie and the Spencer’s immensely. They
were like a second family to her.
"I
can see my mom again!" Gia smiled happily.
"What
was that?" The boys have returned and right now Lucky and Nikolas stand in
the door way, curiously looking at the girls.
"Zander,"
Emily ran to kiss her boyfriend.
"What’s
going on," Zander asked.
"Come
on, let’s go downstairs. These four have something to talk about," She
pulled him out of the room.
"What
is this all about?" Lucky asked, following Nikolas deeper into the
bedroom.
"Ok
first of all you two should set down. Elizabeth and I have something very important
to tell you," Gia nodded.
"Ok,"
Nikolas said him and Lucky taking a seat on the bed. "What is this
about?"
"Well…you
know how Gia and I haven’t been feeling ourselves for the past couple of weeks
right?"
Nikolas
nodded. "Yeah. So? You have a touch of the flu…"
"It’s
not the flu," Gia flatly replied. "It’s something else totally
different."
"What?
Come on stop stalling. It can’t be that bad," Lucky urged them on.
"Well…believe
it or not…Gia and I…both of us…we’re pregnant."
"WHAT!!!"
both Lucky and Nikolas exclaimed.
"We’re
going to have a baby," Gia crossed her arms.
"How?
When?" Nikolas swallowed.
"I
shouldn’t have to tell you how but I’d say it was about six weeks ago,"
Gia shrugged.
Nikolas
glanced down and then back up, realization in his eyes. "You know what
this means? We’ll be able to go home. I come into my fortune when the baby’s
born, leaving Helena powerless," He stood up and grinned. "Soon it’ll
all be over! Soon we’ll be back home!" He took Gia in his arms and whirled
around. "You’ve made me so happy!"
Lucky
was now the only one not smiling. In fact he looked horrified. Getting up, he
rushed out of the room and outside, Elizabeth was right behind him. She found
him setting on the porch with his head in his hands.
"Lucky?
Say something…" She nervously replied, she wasn’t surprised by his
reaction. She knew he’d be upset.
"What
can I say?" Lucky looked at her. "That dream…it has a chance of
coming true now…"
"No.
No Lucky it doesn’t. It’s only a dream. That’s all. Dreams can’t tell the
future. This baby is a gift from God Lucky. And the fact that Gia and Nikolas
are going to have one too…soon we’re going to be home."
"Elizabeth
you don’t understand…if Helena gets her hands on the babies, she’ll kill them.
I know she will and there will be nothing I can do to stop her. Just like in
the dream."
"I
think you’re giving those dreams a lot more credit than they deserve sweetie.
They’re just dreams. You remember star wars?"
Lucky
looked at her strangely wondering what a movie had to do with their situation.
"Yeah?"
"You
remember in the second one when Yoda said always in motion the future is?"
"Oh
great now you’re feeding me quotes from a little green alien from a
movie," Lucky rolled his eyes.
"Well
it’s true. The future is what we make of it. We’ll do everything we can to make
sure that your dream doesn’t come true. Ok? Does that make you feel any
better?"
"No. But it’ll have to do. What’s done is done and quite frankly, I don’t
want to reverse it. I love you Elizabeth and I already love this baby. I
promise you, Nikolas, and Gia, I’ll do everything possible to keep our family
safe from Helena."
"Now
that’s the Lucky Spencer I know and love," Elizabeth smiled brightly,
happy that Lucky was coming out of his depression of his dreams.
"Ok.
I guess it’s time to start picking out names," Lucky grinned, placing a
arm around Elizabeth’s shoulder.
"I
was thinking about Laura Audrey Spencer," Elizabeth brainstormed, if it’s
a girl that is.
"I
don’t know…I kind of like Leslie Audrey Spencer better."
"I like that too. But what if it’s a boy?"
"Steven
Lucas Spencer."
"I
like that too. I’m glad we have that settled. What do you think Nikolas and Gia
will name their baby?"
"Oh
I don’t know…something Gothic probably. Like Catarina or Lawrensovitch or
something like that," Lucky laughed.
"Not
if Gia has anything to say about it," Elizabeth joined in the laughter,
laying her head on Lucky’s shoulder. "At this moment, I’m more happy than
I’ve been in the past couple of months. I love you Lucky."
"I love you more."
Neither Lucky nor Elizabeth notice the man in a black trench coat and Ray ban
sun glasses step up to the porch until he’s right up on them.
"Where’s
Zander Smith?" The man asked, his face showing no emotion.
Lucky
got to his feet and stepped in front of Elizabeth just as Nikolas and Gia
emerged from the house.
"May
we help you?" Nikolas asked, not liking how close the man was standing to
his brother.
"Where’s
Zander Smith," The man turned to Nikolas.
"Zander
Smith? Who’s that? Lucas have you ever heard of a Zander Smith? Some kind of
friend of yours?"
"No.
Of course not. Besides what a stupid name. Zander," Lucky forced himself
to snicker. "What makes you think this Zander is here?"
"He was spotted downtown and he was traced to this house."
"Well
sorry pal but there is no Zander Smith here. Good luck in finding him and
all," Lucky shrugged. "Come Beth. It’s time for Survivor. I don’t
want to miss that."
"Sorry,"
Nikolas shrugged, taking Gia’s hand and following his brother and his fiancee
into the house. Nikolas wasn’t surprised to see Lucky go to the window and peek
between the closed curtains.
"What’s
going on?" Emily and Zander enter the room.
"Shhh,"
Lucky hissed.
"Stay
quiet," Nikolas nodded.
Five
minutes later, Lucky straightened up and sighed with relief. "I don’t know
if he brought our act, but it’s best if we pack up now and move on."
"Will
somebody tell us what’s going on?" Emily asked.
"A
menacing looking man was asking for Zander Smith. Lucky and Nikolas covered,
but we don’t know if he fell for it or not," Gia explained.
"So
we’re getting out of dodge. Now everyone you have a hour to pack and hurry.
Remember leave nothing."
"But
I don’t want to leave," Emily whined. "I love it here."
"Em I’m sorry but we have no choice. Remember what I said about not
getting comfortable because you never know when you’ll have to move? Well this
is the time to move. Listen, I’ll miss it too," Lucky hugged his friend.
"Well
let’s get to this. We don’t have all day," Gia headed for her room.
"I
guess this means we’re missing survivor after all huh?" Elizabeth shook
her head. I wanted to see who would get bumped off next."
"It’ll
be us getting bumped off if we don’t get a move on," Zander joined Emily.
"Let’s
go," Lucky nodded.
A
half hour later and the six friends stand just inside the front door and take
one last look at their former home.
"I’m
going to miss this place. It brought back memories," Lucky sadly sighed.
"And
new ones," Elizabeth leaned her head against Lucky’s shoulder.
"I’m
sorry about this guys. If you want Em and I will go on ahead while you guys
stay here," Zander offered.
"Not
a good idea. If those guys suspect us of lying they’ll be back, with
ammunition. It’s best if we all move," Lucky dug out the keys and walked
out the rest of the way along with the others.
"So
where to now?" Gia asked.
"I
don’t know. We’ll discuss it in the car," Lucky walks to the car.
*
One
hour after the occupants of the house had left, the house silently stands alone.
Dark and forbidding. None of the warmth and genuine love and friendship
remained . No one saw the dark figure sneak out from behind the house and dodge
into a black van. The van hurriedly sped down the street heading for the
highway. A half hour later, the house bursts into flames with a loud explosion.
Had anyone remained in the house they would have been killed instantly, but
thankfully the occupants were well on their way somewhere else.
*
Two
days later…
Helena
stands on the docks looking out at Wyndemere, wondering when the day for her
return to the house will happen. She didn’t notice Andri coming up behind her.
"Madame,"
Andri cleared his throat.
"What
is it now Andri?" Helena asked impatiently.
"I
thought you might be interested in this," He handed the newspaper to her.
On the second page she read a story about an explosion in Texas of a house on
Newberry road. Luckily there were no victims since the house was empty. Looking
at the location of the explosion her eyes widen. This was the house she had
cased many times years ago when Luke Spencer and his family was still on the
run. It was the Spencer’s old home in Texas. So that was where Lucky and
Nikolas had fled. But it said the house was empty and no one had come to be
identified as the owners, meaning that Lucky and Nikolas must have fled…if they
had truly been there. But what could have made them pick up and leave and who
would have ordered a hit? Certainly not her since she had no clue where the
boys were.
"Interesting.
Andri, I want you to find out who was behind that explosion and notify me
immediately. Maybe we can help each other if need be," Helena thoughtfully
stroked her chin.
"Yes
madame," Andri nodded, heading for the yacht to make the necessary
arrangements.
"Oh
yes my dear Nikolas, I will find you and when I do I’ll make sure that neither
you or your brother are left out of my sight again," Helena grinned to
herself before following her manservant.
