CHAPTER
TWO
Elizabeth
yawns as she wakes up and smiles as she sees Lucky standing in front of her
window looking out. She loved waking up with him in her room. "Good
morning."
"Morning,"
Lucky turns and slightly smiles. It’s obvious that he has a lot on his mind.
Elizabeth
gets out of bed and stands behind Lucky, wrapping her arms around his waist and
laying her chin on his shoulder. "What are you thinking?"
"About
last night. I just don’t get it Elizabeth. Besides, my father, who would want
to kidnap me and why? What would be the purpose?"
"I
don’t know," Elizabeth wrinkled her brow.
Both teens
jump at the sound of the knock on the front door downstairs.
"Stay
here," Elizabeth said, going downstairs to open the door to Luke Spencer.
The poor man was pale and it looked as if he had a rough couple of hours. She
had never once saw his eyes look so dull and lifeless. "Mr. Spencer?"
"Hi ya
Liz. Can I come in. I have something to tell you," Luke steps in without
waiting for her answer.
"Uh…sure.
Come right on in. Set down," Elizabeth motions for the sofa. "Can I
get you a glass of water or something?"
"No
darling. That won’t be necessary. I won’t be long. I just thought I should be
the one to tell you this. In fact, you’re the one who should be setting
down."
"Mr.
Spencer…what is it? What’s wrong?"
Luke looked
at Elizabeth, tears welling up in his eyes, he covers his face and sinks down
on the sofa. "It’s Lucky darling…there was a fire at his apartment last
night."
Elizabeth is
further confused. "Mr. Spencer…I’m not catching you here. What are you
talking about?"
"Lucky
darling…he’s gone. There was a fire at his apartment. They found his body in
his bed…burned beyond recognition. My cowboy’s dead," Luke shocks
Elizabeth even further by bursting into tears.
Elizabeth is
speechless as she remembers the sirens from last night. So that was what they
were for. She glances at the stares and back at Lucky’s distraught father. She
had never seen Mr. Spencer like this before. She’s seen him sad and mad, but
never utterly destroyed like he was now. She had to make things right, but she
couldn’t do so without Lucky’s permission.
"Will
you excuse me for a second Mr. Spencer?" Elizabeth’s voice reveal’s no
emotion as she darts up stairs, not waiting for a answer.
"Who
was it?" Lucky asked, turning to face Elizabeth as she enters the room,
her face as white as a sheet.
"It’s
your father Lucky…he’s…he’s destroyed really. There was a fire at your
apartment last night and they found a body burned beyond recognition. He thinks
you’re dead Lucky," Elizabeth explained and takes his hand. "Lucky,
you have to go down there to him. You have to let him know that you survived
and what happened last night. Maybe he’ll have a idea of who tried to kidnap
you and why."
"I
can’t Elizabeth. I’ll be putting him in danger. It’s bad enough that you’ve
been put in danger already."
"But
Lucky he can help. He may know who would want to do this and make sure they’re
taken care of. Lucky please…he’s your father and right now he’s all torn up.
You have to let him know what happened," Elizabeth grabs his hand and
squeezes them reassuringly. "Lucky trust me on this. Your father needs to
know. He can help."
Lucky sighed
in resignation. "Ok. Fine. But he’s it. No one else I love will be placed
in danger."
"Thank
you," Elizabeth smiled, following Lucky out the door.
Lucky stops
at the top of the stairs and stares in shock at the man slumped on Liz’s couch,
his face in his hand. Sobbing his name over and over again. He had never seen
his father like this before. It was almost scary.
"Oh
Lucky I’m so sorry," Luke sobbed. He is unconsolable. He’d do anything to
bring his cowboy back. He’d give up anything just to see his son again.
"Dad?"
a all too familiar voice replies from right in front of him. Luke shakes his
head just knowing that it was his imagination, that there was no way Lucky
could be talking to him because Lucky was dead. He’d never be able to talk to
him again.
"Dad.
Look at me okay. I’m not dead. It was a set up. Dad?"
Luke swallows his sobs and slowly does as the voice tells him to. What did he
have to lose other than what was left of his sanity. He gasps when he looks to
see his deceased son staring at him with concern in his blue eyes. Luke blinks,
but Lucky is still standing there. Luke looks over Lucky’s shoulder to see Liz.
"Liz
darling…do you see what I’m seeing or am I losing my mind?"
"I’m real dad. You’re not losing your mind," Lucky walks closer to
his father and lays a hand on his shoulder. "See. I’m real."
"Oh
god," Luke pulls his son into a tight embrace, never wanting to let him go
again. "It’s a miracle! But how?" Luke steps away from the hug, still
grasping his son’s shoulders. "How can this be? We saw a body…"
Lucky looked
at Liz who only nods reassuringly. "It was a set up dad. I had just said
good night to Liz and blew out the candles I had lit earlier…I was about to
fall asleep when these two large men came and grabbed me. They forced me to go
outside with them. We walked past two other men carrying a body bag to come think
of it. Well anyway, they had almost gotten me to this van when one of them
mentioned a Faison. I remember you talking to me about a faison that had killed
your best friend and I somehow got away from them. I ran here and Liz answered
the door. I hid behind some curtains and watched them search the yards and
bushes for me but they found nothing moved on."
"Cesar
Faison," Luke growled, his eyes glowing with anger. What would Cesar
Faison want with his kid? What was in it for him? Faison and Luke had never
met. He only heard about the guy through Robert. There had to be something
else. Faison must have a partner. "Helena….this has her paws all over
it."
"But
the guy said Faison," Lucky furrowed his brow.
"Helena
could have paid him to kidnap you for her. Now the only thing is to figure out
why. What did she hope to accomplish by having my best friend’s nemesis kidnap
you."
"So
what’s the plan here dad? They’re probably still looking for me."
Luke is silent. He had no plan really. All he knew was that he had to protect
his son some why and he really had no idea how as of yet. Then a idea came to
him. There was only one person who would keep his son safe. One person who
could make absolutely sure that Lucky was under guard twenty-four hours a day.
The only question was would he do it?
"Liz
darling…can I use your phone?" Luke asked.
"I
guess," Elizabeth shrugged.
"Who
are you calling?" Lucky asked curiously, knowing that a plan was forming
in his father’s head.
"You’ll
see Cowboy," Luke smiled. "Hey come to Elizabeth’s Webber’s house
pronto. That’s not a request," Luke spoke into the phone and hangs up.
"Lucky, why don’t you and Cowgirl go into the kitchen. Get breakfast
started."
"Sure,"
Lucky looks at his father suspiciously as Elizabeth pulls him into the kitchen.
"He’s up to something."
"And
you expected him not to be?" Elizabeth asked.
"I just
wonder who else he pulled into this," Lucky sighed. "There’s too many
people involved already.
"I’m
sure it’s someone who can take care of themselves," Elizabeth replies.
"Let’s give your father the benefit of the doubt. He is the adult here,
plus he has experience in this sort of thing."
"You’re
right. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here. It’s just that…I don’t
know. With all that’s happened it’s hard."
"I
know. But I’m positive we won’t regret it," Elizabeth pulls him into a
hug. "Everything will be okay Lucky. I’m sure of it."
"I hope
you’re right sweetie," Lucky sighed. "I hope you’re right and this
will all be over soon."
