Monday
morning arrived much faster than anyone was ready for. Lucky sat in his office,
switching on his computer when Zander arrived.
"Reporting
right on time sir!" He saluted.
"Zander,
this isn’t the army. You don’t have to act like a soldier. Relax. Set down and
grab a soda," Lucky pointed to his mini-fridge.
"You
keep it pretty well stocked," Zander noticed, grabbing a coke.
"What
can I say except that computer programming is thirsty work. Listen, do you know
anything about typing?"
"Yeah.
I do pretty well."
"Good,"
Lucky grinned. "Then you won’t mind typing up this song I’ve just written
for Juan’s tour. Ned wants it on his office by noon and with this new system
I’m supposed to be programming I’m not going to have time."
"What
system is that?" Zander’s interest was peaked. Technology was always
fascinating to him.
"A
quicker way to download music and lyrics to a particular song and at the same
time bring up a picture of the artist. It’s almost perfected, but I have to
work out the bugs."
"Cool.
Ok boss. I’ll have this typed up faster than you can say N’Sync," Zander
grinned.
"Oh and
Zander, just call me Lucky. I’m uncomfortable with boss," Lucky laughed
just as the telephone rang. "L and B."
"Lucky?"
Elizabeth’s shaking voice answered.
"Elizabeth
what’s wrong?"
"There’s
someone outside the house in the bushes. I don’t know who it is."
"Where’s
Sonny’s men?"
"I don’t know. I don’t keep track of them," Elizabeth began crying
harder. "Lucky please…I need you to come home."
Lucky
sighed. He had so much work to do but Elizabeth really sounded scared. He was
sure it was nothing but he better be safe and assume it was something. "Ok
sweetie. Just hang in there. I’ll be home in a few minutes," Lucky hung up
the phone and grabbed his car keys. "Zander hold down the fort until I get
back."
"Where you going?" Zander asked.
"Elizabeth
needs me. I’ll be back as soon as possible," Lucky disappeared, leaving a
distressed Zander staring after him.
*
Elizabeth
was restlessly pacing the floor, looking out the window every once in a while,
sure that she saw movement in the bushes. Something told her she was being
silly, but a bigger part said it wasn’t her imagination. That some how Tom had
gotten through Sonny’s guards and was now laying in wait.
"Elizabeth!"
Lucky bursted into the house. Immediately she was in his arms.
"Oh
Lucky thank goodness you’re home!" She clung to him tightly. "I saw a
shadow near the bushes."
"I’ll go check," Lucky pulled away. "You stay in here and don’t
come out unless I say."
Elizabeth nodded, and watched as Lucky investigated the bushes to find nothing.
"There’s
no one here," Lucky looked up at his wife. "Whatever it was must have
been your imagination."
"But I
saw something…I swear…"
"Shhh
baby. It’s ok now. Whatever or whoever it was is obviously gone now. But I’m
going to call Sonny and have him triple the man power."
Elizabeth
nodded. "Ok."
Lucky picked
up the phone and dialed Sonny’s number. After a short conversation he hangs up
again. "More men are on their way. Are you going to be ok by yourself in
the mean time? I have to get back to the office…"
"I’ll
be fine Lucky. I guess I just got a little jumpy after the confrontation the
other day."
"Well
if you need me again sweetie just give me a ring," Lucky pulled her into a
hug. "I love you."
"I love
you to," Elizabeth smiled, pulling away from the embrace knowing that she
wouldn’t be able to let him go if she didn’t.
"Ok.
I’ll be back before you know it," Lucky grinned, backing out of the door.
Smiling
Elizabeth locked the door behind her and ran to peek out the curtains to watch
him hope on his motorcycle, something he brought when it became clear that
Elizabeth loved riding on the back of Jason’s, and return to work. Suddenly she
frowned as it dawned on her that Lucky had neglected to get protection for
himself. With Helena back in town he was going to need it. She was going to
have a talk with Sonny about that.
She quickly
picked up the phone. "Hi, Mr. Corinthoes, this is Elizabeth Spencer. I know
my husband just called. Um…can you come over as well. I’d like to discuss
something over with you. Ok. Thank you," Elizabeth sighed with relief. She
was going to make sure that Lucky was safe from the woman that had put all of
them through hell and back.
