Kelly’s
Nikolas and Gia sat at their table, cuddle together, happier than
they ever been, both are intensely watching Lucky and Gia’s cousin Katie talk
at the counter.
"Don’t you think they would make a cute couple?" Gia
asked. "Katie needs a good man in her life right now and Lucky would do
her good."
"She’d do Lucky good too. Help him get over Elizabeth. You
know I still can’t believe she left him for that thug. Especially when he
needed her so much…after all Lucky’s done for her…," Nikolas grits his
teeth angrily.
"Nikolas shhh. Don’t think about that thing. It’s over and
Lucky’s better off for it. Now he’s free to really enjoy life. Hopefully with
Katie."
"We have an audience," Katie whispered to her best
friend, glancing over at Nikolas and Gia.
"I wish they’d stop it. Why can’t they understand that you
have this big boyfriend in college and I’m still not over Elizabeth,"
Lucky rolled his eyes.
"So have you heard from her anymore?"
"You mean since two nights ago? No. Not a word. It took a lot
of arm twisting to get the money from Nikolas. I had to tell him it was for a
specialist in deprogramming."
"Why didn’t you tell him the truth?"
"Because he wouldn’t have given it to me then. He grits his
teeth everytime her name is mentioned. I just hope he keeps it to himself when
she gets here."
"Don’t count on it," Katie shook her head. Oh there’s a
customer. I’ll be right back," Katie left Lucky to his thoughts.
He leaned back and thought of the last time he spoke to Elizabeth.
"Oh thank you Lucky. I’m going to pay you back every penny. I
promise."
"Don’t worry about it. Just come back home in one piece. You
do have a place to stay when you come in don’t you?"
"I’ll think of something. I’ll even go back to Gram with all
her I told you so’s."
"My old room in Kelly’s is still available if you want
it."
"Lucky no!"
"Elizabeth yes. Take it. Listen I’ll talk to you when you
arrive. Just call me on my cell. You have the number. I’ll come pick you
up."
"Lucky you don’t have to do that."
"I want to."
"How can you be so nice to me after all I’ve done?"
tears was in her voice.
"You’d do the same for me right? Besides, we all make
mistakes and just because we’re not together anymore doesn’t mean we’re not
friends. That’s one thing we always were."
"Thank you Lucky. You’re the best. I’ll call you when I
land."
"Ok. Bye Elizabeth."
"Bye."
That was the last he heard of her. Maybe Jason showed back up and
she wasn’t coming after all? He shook his head. No he called Western Union the
night before and the money had been picked up. So Elizabeth should be arriving
any time now.
"Hey little bro," Nikolas came up to lean against the
counter. "How’s everything going with Katie?"
"We’re just friends Nikolas. Can you drop it?" Lucky
glared at his brother, tired of his attempts to get Lucky and Katie together
Lucky jumped at the sound of his cellphone. He almost dropped it as he
answered.
"Spencer here."
"Lucky?" Elizabeth’s voice nervously came through. She
sounded so scared and unsure of herself.
"Hey. I was waiting to hear from you."
"I’m at the airport," Was Elizabeth’s unsteady reply.
"I’m on my way. Stay put," Lucky hung up and grabbed his
coat.
"Hey where are you going?" Nikolas asked.
"Uh…I have something I have to take care of. I’ll see you at
the cottage."
"Lucky!" Nikolas called, but his brother keeps going.
Nikolas frowned, wondering what Lucky was up to now. Well at least he wasn’t
off to do Helena’s bidding. He could be grateful for that much.
