TWENTY-FIVE

Wyndemere’s ballroom is now filled with guests, celebrating the union of Lucky and Elizabeth. Lucky and Elizabeth are standing in their own little corner, totally immersed with themselves.

"Elizabeth Imogene Spencer, it’s rude not to mingle among your guests," Sarah scolded approaching the happy couple.

"Hey long time no see," Lucky grins, hugging his sister in law. He could laugh at the irony. A couple of years ago he wanted Sarah Webber more than anything, but now, the love of his life turns out to be her little sister.

"Congratulations you two. You deserve each other," Sarah smiled. "I am so happy for you. Can’t say I’m not surprised."

Elizabeth laughed. "I guess not, after all that writing I did to you while you were in London."

"So this is the infamous Lucky Spencer. The man who stole my youngest daughter’s heart," Jeff Webber strolls up alongside his wife. He holds out his hand. "It’s pleasure to meet you."

"The pleasure’s all mine sir," Lucky accepts the jesture.

"You just be sure to take good care of my little girl."

"Daddy," Elizabeth warns.

"I will sir. You can count on that," Lucky wraps a secure arm around Elizabeth.

"Well Cowboy! How does it feel being a married man now?" Luke strolls up along side Laura.

"I can’t believe it. My baby’s all grown up," Laura embraces her son. "It seems like yesterday we were teaching you how to ride a bicycle."

"Honey that was yesterday," Luke laughs.

"Ha ha very funny dad," Lucky throws him a dirty look. "Mom, dad, I’d like you to meet Elizabeth’s family, this is her sister Sarah. And these are her parents Jeff and Grace Webber."

"Nice to meet the parents of the light of my son’s life," Luke grins shaking hands with the Webbers.

"you have a wonderful daughter and we’re so happy to have her a part of our family," Laura smiles.

"Your son seems to be a delight also. From what Sarah has told us he’s helped our daughter tremendously," Grace nods.

"We’ve helped each other," Elizabeth looks up at Lucky and squeezes his arm affectionately.

"Elizabeth!" Emily come running to her friend. "It’s time to cut the cake you two then Nikolas has to make his toast! Come on!" She grabs Elizabeth’s hand and pulls her over to the table where the cake sets.

"Who do we do this again?" Elizabeth whispers to her husband.

Lucky places her hand on hers and they both cut the cake together. They split a piece and before she knew it a delicious piece of cake was being slightly pushed into her mouth. "Lucky!" She laughed and did the same to him.

"You two behave!" Nikolas laughed.

"Ok. Who’s next?" Lucky asked.

"This is my job cowboy," Luke smiles, pushing the bride and groom aside. "You two go and enjoy yourselves."

A half hour later everyone is seated at their tables. Nikolas tapes a champagne glass with his fork and stands up. "As everyone well knows, I’m not too good at giving speeches. So instead of a speech, I’m just going to tell you about two very special people close to my heart. My brother Lucky and Elizabeth, one of my closest friends. What can I say except you both have changed my life tremendously. I’ve learned to be a good friend and a even better brother from you both. I know in the past we’ve had our differences, but I’m glad we’ve risen above them.

"I wish you all the love and joy in the world and plenty of more children in your future. Liz a warning, my brother had mentioned one time wanting a housefull of children someday so you’re going to have your work cut out for you. Well anyway, here’s a toast, to Lucky and Elizabeth. May they be the models of what a couple in love should be." Nikolas raises his glass.

"To Lucky and Liz!" The room erupts in cheers and applause.

It’s the last dance. Nikolas and Beth set at their table, nervously eyeing one another. They had not danced the whole evening, just walked around and mingled with the guests.

"So…you wouldn’t mind a dance would you?" Nikolas asked.

"I’d love too," Beth smiled. As Nikolas leads her out onto the dancefloor she glances over at the newlyweds. "She makes him so happy. You know it’s hard to believe he was ever that sad five year old boy back in Kentucky. He’s so happy now."

Nikolas smiles. "Tell me what was Lucky like back then?"

"Sad. He rarely smiled. I knew what was going on, but I was five years old too. What could I do? I tried to tell my parents, but I think they were too afraid to step in."

"Were you his only friend?"

Beth nods. "The other kids were too afraid of the McCoys. Don’t get me wrong I was afraid of them too. But I was more brave then others. Besides, my parents always told me it wasn’t nice to shun those less fortunate than ourselves."

Nikolas laughs.

"What?"

"Lucky? Unfortunate? That’s hard to imagine."

"Well this was before Luke and Laura came on the scene ok," Beth sighed. "But you did witness how it used to be for him when you came down."

"Yeah and I’m in the process of having a talk with my uncle about that. No one hurts my brother like that and gets away with it," Nikolas’s face hardens, just as two police officers enter, Mac Scorpio leading them in. A very bruised Calvin McCoy hobbles in on a crutch, being supported by his wife enters the ballroom.

"Mr. Cassadine," Mrs. Lansbury clears her throat. "These men insisted upon entering the party."

"There they are!" Calvin points accusingly at Luke and Stefan. "It was those two that did this to me!"

"What’s going on here?" Lucky asks, grateful that most of the guests, Elizabeth’s family mainly had already gone home.

"Mr. McCoy claims he was attacked," Mac Scorpio explains. "I’m sorry we have to do this now on your wedding day."

"When did this attack take place?" Nikolas and Beth goes over to join Lucky and Liz.

"Last night. On the docks."

"These two jumped me and messed me up well good," Calvin nods. "Said to stay away from Lucky and Laura or they’ll finish what they started."

"I saw it all go down," Paula crosses her arms.

"This is nonsense! I would never do such a thing and to team up with Luke Spencer to do so?! Ridiculous!"

"Vlad’s right for once. I was nowhere near the docks last night and I wouldn’t team up with a Cassadine to do something I can do on my own!" Luke takes a step back. "Come on Mac, you can’t be buying this."

"Commishioner I saw them with my two eyes! I even have a bruise from where they pushed me out of the way," Paula grabs the commishioner’s arm. "They want us out of the way so much they’ll kill us if need be."

"Mac come on you can’t believe them!" Lucky steps up. "they’re lying it’s so obvious! Taggert come on, you know they ‘re lying! You know they have a grudge against Stefan and my dad!"

Taggert sighs. He definitely didn’t want to do this. Not only did he not believe the McCoy’s it was Lucky and Liz’s wedding day. He had to turn down a invitation because he had to work. "I’m sorry Lucky. There’s a witness. Things don’t look too good for neither Cassadine or your father."

"Men cuff them and read them their rights. I want this done by the books," Mac orders his men.

"Lucky don’t worry. Everything will be fine. You’ll see," Luke tries to reassure his son who was looking on in horror. Gone was all the happiness of the day. This was wrong. This shouldn’t be happening, not on what should be the happiest day of his son’s life. Just one day he wanted his son to be totally happy! Just one day and he couldn’t even have that."

"Nikolas! Call Alexis! She’s still up," Stefan turns to his nephew.

"Come Laura it’s time to come home," Paula reaches for her daughter that cowers behind Elizabeth.

"She’s going no where with you!" Nikolas turns on the McCoy’s. "She stays here at Wyndemere with us! Now get out of our house!"

"Lucky! It’s okay! Go on to New York with Elizabeth! Lucky!" Luke calls out for his son as the police drag their prisoners from the building and drive back to the police station.

"I can’t believe this!" Nikolas shouts in horror. "How this be allowed to happen!"

"Lucky?" Elizabeth grabs his hand. "Say something."

Lucky has been silent as they led Luke and Stefan away, the McCoys following behind so they can fill out the necessary papers.

"Stay here Elizabeth. I’m going down to the station," Lucky silently replied. "I’ll be home soon."

"I’ll go with you," Nikolas nods.

"We’ll take care of everything here," Emily nod, turning to Beth.

"Mom?" Lucky looks at his mother who had tears in her eyes. She just goes and hugs her son. "My poor baby. This was supposed to be a happy day for you and it ends like this."

"You want to come with us?" Nikolas asks.

"Of course. We’ll take my car. It’ll be hard not to draw too much attention in our fancy attire."

"We’ll be waiting right here," Beth calls after them as they leave.
