CHAPTER NINETEEN

Luke, Laura, Lucky, and Nikolas, and Earl stand in one corner of the station, the McCoys set two chairs in front of Mac’s desk giving their statements.

"Don’t worry Cowboy . This will only take a couple of hours and we’ll be free as birds," Luke reassure’s Lucky who’s busy glaring at the McCoy’s.

"I wonder what they’re telling them. I hope they mention the thing about the horsewhip while they’re at it," Lucky sighs. "This isn’t fair! Mac won’t even listen to us but he’ll spend a hour listening to their lies!"

"I called Stefan. He called Alexis. She should be here soon," Nikolas crossed his arms. "Alexis is good. She’ll get these charges thrown out of court."

"I don’t even want this to reach court Nikolas. Elizabeth and I will be getting married in a couple of weeks. I need mom and dad there."

"We’ll be there Cowboy. Don’t worry. Mac and all his bad breath can’t keep us away," Luke squeezed Lucky’s shoulder. "Don’t worry. Nikky is right. Natasha will get these charges thrown out and we’ll be home by supper time."

"But just in case, Nikolas take care of your brother and sister," Laura wipes away her tears, tears she’s been shedding for the past half hour. She’s certain that she and Luke will be going to jail. She won’t get to see either of her sons get married nor will she get to watch her daughter grow up. But she had to say she didn’t regret taking Lucky all those years ago. Being his mother was the most wonderful experience in the world. Besides, she knew all too well how Lucky could have turned out. She thanked god everyday that she saw a battered and bruised, often bitter teen-aged boys enter the center where she volunteered. She had often wished that she could have taken them in too, just like she took in Lucky.

"Mother, there will be no need for me to do that. You’ll be able to do that yourself," Nikolas reassured his mother.

"Nikolas! Lucky!" Beth and Elizabeth run in, Alexis leading the way.

"Thank god you’re here," Lucky embraces Elizabeth tightly.

"Alexis said that your parents were under arrest for kidnapping," Beth looks at Luke and Laura.

"Earl too," Nikolas nods.

"Alexis, it wasn’t kidnapping, plus it was fourteen years ago. They can’t do this can they?" Lucky asked.

Alexis bites her lips. "Did Earl and your parents have the McCoy’s permission to leave with you Lucky?"
"Does that matter? I would have died if they hadn’t!" Lucky dodges the answer.

"It matters. Believe me it matters. And yes, the McCoy’s can charge them with kidnapping even if it was one hundred years ago," Alexis explained. "Now did you guys have permission to take Lucky anywhere back then?"

Luke, Laura, and Earl shook their heads.

"Did the McCoy’s even know that you had Lucky with you?"

Again they shook their heads no.

"Well then I’m sorry Lucky, but it’s kidnapping," Alexis sighed sadly. "This is going to be a tough one to win."

"But we can win can’t we Alexis?" Beth asked, hope lacing her voice.

"Perhaps. If not win, then get off with a slap on the wrist."

Finally the McCoy’s are done. They walk pass the group and smile smugly.

"You’re going down Spencer," Calvin smiles at Luke. "I hope you enjoy the prison food. Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of my son and grandchild."

"You son of a bitch!" Luke lunges at Calvin but is held back by Nikolas and Taggert, who was on the Spencer’s side of course. He had had a couple of drinks with Earl the other night and he had told him the whole story of how he and the Spencers saved Lucky from abusive parents.

"Not here Spencer. Not now. It’ll only make things worse on yourself and Lucky. Do you want that?" Taggert hissed.

"Lucky?" Luke looks at his son who was just staring at the scene silently. Luke nods and relaxs. "Go to hell McCoy and take that old bat you call a fairy Godmother with you. Taggert, I know we don’t get along all that well, but do me this one favor while I’m in jail. Keep those people away from my son."

"I’ll do my best," Taggert nods, releasing his tight hold on Luke’s arm. "For all it’s worth Spencer, I feel for you. Earl told me what you did and why and I have to say I respect you for it. Even though it may get you put away for a while."

"Don’t count on it Leiutenant. I will be there for my son’s wedding and the birth of my grandchild. I will be there to see my daughter and grandchild grow up," Luke grins confidently. "Ain’t that right Cowboy?" Luke looks at Lucky.

Lucky looks up at Look, his usually bright happy eyes now dark with guilt and despair. This was all his fault. His parents were going to jail all because of him. He knew this would happen, he was a fool for pretending otherwise. "I have to get out of here," Lucky walks out of the station.

"Lucky wait! Come back!" Elizabeth runs after him, Nikolas and Beth following behind.

They catch up with Lucky at the boxcar. Lucky is setting in the door, staring off into the distance.

"Lucky. Talk to us," Nikolas hops up beside his brother.

"I’m sorry Nikolas. I’m sorry your mother is going through this," Lucky sighed.

"Hey, she’s your mother too. She may not have given birth to you Lucky but she raised and loved you as if you were her own. In fact, she’s more your mother than mine since she did raise you and I was raised by Stefan," Nikolas squeezed Lucky’s shoulder. "And don’t worry. Alexis will think of something. In fact, I bet they won’t have to serve any jail time. They’ll probably get probation and community service. Luke and Laura will be at your wedding to Liz and they will be there with your son is born."

"The McCoy’s can’t win Lucky. We won’t let them," Elizabeth nods in agreement with Nikolas.

"With Helena Cassadine on their side they can. They have power now Liz. All Helena has to do is pay off a judge and then we all lose. Luke and Laura go to jail and the McCoy’s get Laura back and then maybe even rights to our baby."

"Lucky…"

Lucky hops down from the boxcar, a new gleam in his eyes. "And I’m not going to let that happen."

"Lucky…I don’t like the sound of that," Elizabeth furrows her brow. "What are you upto?"

"Nikolas watch after Elizabeth for me. I have to make a stop at my parents house then I’m going to pay the McCoy’s a visit.

"Lucky, don’t do anything crazy," Nikolas warned.

Lucky doesn’t answer. He nods and walks away, leaving the others staring after him.

"What do you think he’s up to?" Beth asked curiously.

"I don’t know, but judging from that look in his eyes I don’t like it," Nikolas shakes his head. "You two go back to Wyndemere. I’m tailing Lucky."

"Wait not without me you don’t," Elizabeth grabs Nikolas’s arm.

"Elizabeth…" Nikolas protests.

"Nikolas, if Lucky is about to do what I’m thinking he’s about to do, he won’t listen to you. I’m the only person who can talk him out of this. Nikolas please…"

"Alright fine! But remember this is your idea!" Nikolas sighs defeated.

"Thank you," Elizabeth smiles in satisfaction. "Now let’s go before he’s too far ahead to follow."
