CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Lucky stands at the window that looks across at the town of port charles and sighs. The McCoys were there, planning and waiting for their next move and he had no idea what that move was. At least in Kentucky he was well aware of what they had planned, but now he was oblivious and it worried him. He had to wonder how Luke controlled his fears when they were on the run.

"Lucky?" Elizabeth places a secure hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay?"

"Fine," Lucky nods, not turning around to face her. "It’s just that they’re out there Elizabeth. They’re out there forming another plan. How are we going to counter it if we don’t know what that plan is?"

"By sticking together as a family. We’ll beat them Lucky. All of us, you me, Luke Laura, Beth Nikolas, Earl…even Stefan. We’ll all beat them. When you love someone as much as we all love each other…we can beat anything."

"Who told you that?" Lucky asked, on the verge of laughter. "It sounds like something out of a hallmark card.

"Well, not in so many words you told me or rather made me believe that. I learned that with your love I was able to rise above being raped. As long as we loved each other we could beat anything."

"And you still believe this?"

"Most definitely. You should believe too Lucky. So far your love for Laura has kept her safe."

"She’s going to be raised by a Cassadine Elizabeth."

"So? Isn’t that better than being raised by the abusive McCoys. At least you know that Stefan won’t lay a hand on her. He may even grow to love her like his own. Children do have a tendency to grow on people. In fact, I think Stefan has already fallen for her. I saw him last night in her room reading her a story. The look on his face…I’ve never seen him so tender and gentle before. It was weird."

"You can’t be serious."

Elizabeth nods. I saw it with my own eyes Lucky."

"Okay, fine. Stefan’s great with her, but can he stop the McCoys from coming after us? I don’t think so."

"What’s with this negative attitude all of a sudden?" Elizabeth’s patience wears off. "You sure did wake up on the wrong side."

"It’s not waking up on the wrong side Elizabeth. It’s for the first time facing reality. Life on that farm kind of brought it all home. The McCoys are ruthless when they want something and right now they want Laura. I can’t let them get her Liz. If I have to take her and disappear I will."

"You’re serious," Elizabeth looks at him.

"Of course. You, Laura, our baby and me. We’ll all disappear and dad taught me how to make sure we’re never found. In fact, I’m going down to an associate of my father’s and buying us some fake ids. Just in case."

"Lucky…"

"Just because I’m buying them doesn’t mean we’re going to need them," Lucky squeezes her shoulders reassuringly. "They’re just a precaution. If we don’t need them, then they’re a great waste of money."

Elizabeth sighed and nods in defeat. "Fine. Go get us some ids."

Lucky pulls her into a hug. "Now to more happy talk. Where do you want to get married?"

"Our church. Where we said our vows last Valentine’s day," Elizabeth smiles snuggling up against him and sighs happily as he tightens his embrace. "Where we vowed to love each other forever."

"That’s a perfect place," Lucky sighed contently. "I want to make it as soon as possible Liz."

"Do you think Beth will be my bridesmaid and Emily my maid of honor?" Liz asked.

"Of course. They’d be honor. And Nikolas of course will be my best man and I want Earl to set on the side of the groom’s family. Right along side my parents."

"Oh my god! How about the flower girl and ring bearer? Both Lulu and Laura are going to want to be flower girls," Elizabeth looks at Lucky.

"Hmmm. How about we make Laura the flower girl and Lulu the ring bearer?"

"Lucky…the ringbearer is a boy."

"By tradition yes, but since when has the Spencers been traditional?" Lucky laughed.

"Gram will probably be the only member of my family attending," Liz is suddenly sad and stares at the ground. "I haven’t heard from Sarah nor my parents for years."

"Why not?"

"I guess they don’t care. Out of sight out of mind. But you know what, I don’t care. You’re my family and that’s all I need."

Lucky smiled and kissed her head. "That’s all I need too."

"You two coming down to breakfast?" Nikolas sticks his head into the room. "We’re waiting."

"Hold your horses," Lucky rolls his eyes, "We’re coming." Lucky takes Liz’s hand and leads her out of the room.
