CHAPTER TEN
Two months later…
Elizabeth stands in the middle of Lucky’s almost empty apartment
and stares at the stick that had turned pink. Tears of joy, disbelief, and fear
slide from her eyes. It’s been ten minutes since she took the test and by what
the test showed, she was indeed pregnant with Lucky’s child. Her tears intensens
when she realizes that Lucky’s not even here to share in this news. She cries
out and falls down onto the bed and sobs in grief. She was pregnant and all
alone and as far as she knew no one knew what had become of Lucky. All her
letters had come back returned to sender. Meaning he wasn’t getting them, or he
didn’t want to hear from her anymore. Hopefully it was because he wasn’t
getting them because it’d kill her if he didn’t want to see her anymore. Wiping
away her tear she looks at the letter he had sent her a two months ago, two
weeks after he had left. He had told her about Laura of course and how mean the
McCoys were to the little girl. How he had spent his first night there with the
little girl who had been banished to a dark shed.
He had told her how much he loved her and that as soon as possible
he will be back home with Laura and that he would never leave her side again.
And that was it. After that there were no more letters and she had written ten
letters all together and each one had been returned to sender.
Her tears fall again and she buries her head in the pillow. She
jumps when she feels a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Lucky?" She sets
up.
"No it’s Nikolas. I thought you might be here," Nikolas
answered. He had been looking all over for Elizabeth, concerned when he had
spotted her buying a pregnancy test. Could it be possible? And if so what then?
Should he write Lucky and tell him if she hasn’t already? "So was it
positive?"
"What?"
"I saw you in the store buying the pregnancy test. I would
have said something, but I didn’t want you to be embarrassed or anything."
Elizabeth nods and forces a smile. "Well congratulations.
You’re going to be a uncle," Elizabeth bursts into renewed tears.
"Oh Liz. How did this happen?" He pulls her into his
arms in a comforting hug.
"The night before Lucky left. I wanted to be close to Lucky,
to make love with him before he left. I initiated everything. I should have
known this would happen. We used no protection or anything."
"Oh man. Does Luke and Laura know?"
Elizabeth shakes her head. That night was special and private. She
didn’t think the Spencers would want to know the activities of the night
before. Lucky left. "Gram doesn’t know either. I guess it’s a good thing I
moved to Kelly’s isn’t it?"
Nikolas nods. "How about Lucky. Did you write him telling him
about the possibility?"
Elizabeth shakes her head. "All my letters have come back
returned to sender. It’s like he doesn’t even want to hear from me."
"That’s strange," Nikolas furrows his brow. Lucky had
answered everyone of his letters and he knew how much Lucky loved Liz, he had
written for Nikolas to keep a eye out for her and reassure her that he was
coming home. If Lucky had received her letters, he would certainly answer.
"He’s answered every single one of mine."
"What? He answers yours?"
"Yeah. And tells me to keep taking care of you and to
reassure you that he’ll be home soon. So he still loves you Liz. He must not be
receiving your letters."
"Now he’ll never know!" Elizabeth sobs.
Nikolas rakes his brain for a solution, how to gently let Lucky
know about Liz’s pregnancy. Then it hit him. He had time off coming next month
from Deception. He’ll just take that time and go pay his brother a visit. He
doubted the McCoy’s would mind since they’ve allowed Lucky to receive his
letters. He’ll tell Lucky Liz’s situation and hopefully bring Lucky home.
"It’s going to be okay Liz. You’ll see. I’ll take care of
everything," Nikolas pulls her into another hug, stroking her hair. He was
determined to make Liz’s life happy again and the only way to do that was to
bring Lucky back home where he belonged.
Three days later at the McCoy house…
Laura had received another bad beating a couple of hours ago and
Lucky had taken the little girl over to Beth’s apartment where they both tended
to the wounds.
"What did she do this time that deserved a beating?"
Beth asked.
"She accidentally spilt some milk and Paula freaked. By time
I got downstairs I found Paula beating her with that damn belt," Lucky
explained. "She was done by then."
"Lucky you have to get her out of there. Soon."
"I know. And I know exactly when to make the move. I got a
letter from my brother yesterday," Lucky takes an envelope out of his
pocket.
"You mean the one’s that you claim is a prince?" Beth looked
at him skeptically.
"He is a prince," Lucky looked at her seriously.
"Oh come on Lucky, Laura may believe stuff like that but I’m
not a five year old anymore," Beth shakes her head.
"It’s the truth whether you believe me or not. But let’s not
get off the subject here. I got a letter from Nikolas yesterday. He’s coming
down next month to visit."
"Here? In Kentucky? Next month?" Beth’s eyes widen.
"Are you serious.
Lucky nods. "You can ask him about being a prince himself.
Even though he’s a Cassadine, he’s pretty truthful. But anyway, Laura and I are
heading back to PC with him. It’s the perfect time to make a fast get
away."
"Lucky…are you sure this is going to work?"
"It has to Beth. The beatings are getting worse. She can’t
survive much more," Lucky sighed. "Besides, I haven’t heard from
Elizabeth. I want to know what’s going on with her as soon as possible."
"You really love her don’t you?"
"With my whole heart," Lucky smiled.
"Well then I’m with you with the escape plan. So what’s the
strategy?"
"Don’t know yet. We’ll discuss that when Nikolas gets here. Right now,
let’s just concentrate on getting Laura to sleep. She’s been so sleepy
lately."
Beth nods and continues applying the antiseptic onto Laura’s
bleeding wounds, hoping that the little girl can just hold on until next month
when Lucky’s brother will arrive.
