DEEP THOUGHT #4: What Buffy had Meant to Me
I remember the first time Ive ever laid eyes on Sarah Michelle Gellar. I was an avid fan of All My Children and was also a fan of Erica Kane. So when it turned out that Erica had a secret daughter, I tuned in everyday and soon became an even bigger fan of Kendall Hart played by SMG. She was brilliant on the show and played the part perfectly. The day she left the show was a sad moment for me. Then, not too much later, when I was living on campus, I heard about the movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer being made into a television show. At first I didnt know what to think, but decided to tune in, just out of curiosity. Imagine my surprise when I saw Kendall on the screen, with a new hair color and pretty much a whole new look. My curiosity grew. I wondered how the actress who played Erica Kanes daughter so perfectly would pull off the roll of Buffy. Cheerleader/vampire slayer.
She was perfect and I not only fell in love with the show but the story lines and the characters. Even Xander, though he annoyed me to no end with the way he treated both Buffy and Angel. Throughout the years, Sunnydale and its problems became an escape for me. If I had a bad day at school or on the job, especially on the day Buffy was shown, all I had to do was turn on the TV and forget about real life for a while. It was like Buffy had invited me on her many adventures and once in that world, the problems of the real world didnt exist. For seven years I had escaped to Sunnydale, each season holding a new adventure. And now that the adventure has ended, I look forward to traveling down memory lane with the syndicated episodes and the dvds.
So I say a fond farewell to the show and a wonderful hello to the fanfictionJ So Id like to send out a big thank you to Joss Whedon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nikolas Brendon, and Anthony Steward Head, and the rest of the cast for a wonderful escape for the past seven years and I wish you luck in the future.
