DEEP THOUGHT #3: The Wrongness of Empty Places(Recent Buffy Episode)

If you haven’t watched the past episode of Buffy, it’s best not to read this rant, because it contains spoilers. Usually, I don’t get this mad about a television show. But this past episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has really got me steaming. It wasn’t the episode itself, but what had happened. Those of you probably already know that the Scooby gang and SIT’s kicked Buffy out of the house…no Dawn kicked her out. WTF! Ok, first it was a confrontation between Faith and Buffy. Faith was trying to reason with her. And then everything went to hell. Everyone began to gang up on her. Let me rant about the ones that really made me beyond angry. First there was Anya. She was obviously full of bitterness, telling Buffy that she thought she was better then the rest of them. She said that she was just lucky. That while the rest of them had to earn their strength, Buffy was handed hers. Excuse me Anya, but Buffy had never asked to be the Slayer. In fact, she never wanted the powers nor the responsibility. She’s tried to run away from her calling a number of times but was always pulled back in. Whereas, the rest of you could just stop whenever you wanted to. All poor Buffy wanted to do was move to Europe, marry Brad Pitt, and die. (Quote from the movieJ ). Not once had she ever asked to be the Slayer. Not once has she ever considered herself lucky! So get off your soapbox and get over it before I sick a bunny on you!

Ok. Whose next? Oh yes, Willow. Ah, Willow…her betrayal hurt much worse then any of them to me. Kudos for trying to stand up for her at first…but what happened when Kennedy asked you why you always stood up for her? Why did you back down? Why didn’t you tell that rat faced Kennedy that you’re standing up for Buffy because you two have been friends for seven years! That she’s the one who stood by you through all your good times and bad. That she didn’t turn away from you when you came back from being dark Willow? Kennedy of course got scared and ran in the other direction when she caught a glimpse of your dark side. Buffy has been by your side through thick and thin. You’ve just met Kennedy. Buffy is your best friend. She’ll always be your best friend. How do you know you’ll be with Kennedy this time next year? Hmmm? Grrr. Willow, think of whom your friends are before turning your back on them like that.

Woods. Who do you think you are? You’re not even a real member of the Scoobies. You’re just a member of this by Osmosis. Just because you’re a son of a Slayer, does not give you the right to call a vote to oust the current Slayer. So what, Buffy wasn’t going to have you going after Spike. So what that you won’t get your precious revenge. In the words of Cordy in a recent episode of Angel…get over it. It’s like Buffy said. This is the end of the world. There is no room for vengeance and vendettas. You think Faith is going to let you go after Spike? Think again. Faith is a Slayer. She’ll tell you the same thing Buffy did. There is no room for Vendettas. What are you going to do? Call a vote to oust her from the group too? Get over yourself Woods.

And last but not least in the list of people that pissed me off in that episode…Dawn. Yes, the key. How dare she kick Buffy out! If it weren’t for Buffy, she’d either be dead or some God’s key! Buffy gave her life for Dawn! She saved her from singing Demons, vampires, and Dark Willow, Dawn isn’t even an original Scooby member! She’s not even real! She doesn’t pay the mortgage on the house, nor buys the food! Who is she to kick Buffy out of her own house! She should be the one leaving!

Oh and Rona…I can’t believe that I used to like you. But now…Grrr. How easily you forget that it was Buffy who saved your ass from that Bringer! She should have let them have you! I’m so sick of hearing "This is Crazy" and blaming Buffy for getting hurt an all that crap. But guess what…you’re a Potential Slayer! Fighting and getting hurt are exactly what you’re going to have to do when or god forbid if you become an actual Slayer…which I hope Caleb does away with you before that can ever happen!

The only ones in the meeting that are free of guilt are Faith and Xander. Xander has earned a right to rest with what happened to his eye. He has sacrificed enough and I understand that. He’s the only one in that room really who has a right to complain.

And kudos to Faith for not only trying to stop it, but for being understanding and trying to work things out with Buffy after it was over. And also, a big hand for Buffy for not blaming Faith for the group attack.

But as for the rest of the Scoobies. They need to remember that Buffy is human too. She makes mistakes and will probably make more. She may be the Slayer, but she isn’t perfect. One bad decision does not call for kicking her out of the group or her house. Get a grip.
