CHAPTER NINE

Laura and Lulu are in the living room playing chutes and latters when the door bell rings.

"Shall I get that?" Laura grins over at her daughter, who just simply smiles and nods after looking out the window. "Nikolas came to see me."
"He has? Well let’s let him in shall we?" Laura picks Lulu up and carries her to the door. "Nikolas!" Lulu happily exclaims as Laura opens the door.

"Hey Lulu!" Nikolas takes his sister and hugs her. Lulu’s eyes widen as she sees Lucky standing behind Elizabeth.

"Lucky came back from heaven!" Lulu squirms out of Nikolas’s arms and runs to her long lost brother.

"What?" Laura tries to get a look at where Lulu had run off too. "Lulu where did you go?"

"She’s right here mom," Lucky steps out of the shadows with Lulu tightly holding his neck.

Laura’s face fades to ten shades of pale and suddenly she’s on the floor, having fainted from the shock. It’s Luke that gets her to the couch.

"Laura? Laura wake up," He slaps her face a couple of times.

"I didn’t mean to frighten her," Lucky stares down at his mother, worry gleaming in his eyes.

"It’s okay Cowboy. Listen, why don’t you three take Lulu up to bed and read her a story. I’ll explain things to Laura down here," Luke nods to the stairs.

Lucky nods and follows, Elizabeth and Nikolas up the stairs, with Lulu in his arms, leaving Luke alone with Laura.

"Laura, wake up. It’s okay. Wake up," Luke whispered, gasping her hand, tightly. It’s takes fifteen minutes of running her hand and whispering softly to get her to wake up. By that time, Lucky and the others are downstairs, having gotten Lulu asleep.

"Luke?" Laura opens her eyes, only seeing her ex-husband at the moment. "What happened?"

"You fainted darlin," Luke explained, setting back as she sets up.

"Fainted? Why would I…," Laura suddenly remembers the vision of Lucky on the front porch. It must have been Luke and wishful thinking had made her see Lucky instead. "Thought you were Lucky…I guess I was missing him without realizing it." Tears well up in Laura’s eyes.

"I missed you too mom," Lucky walks up behind Luke, who looks up at his son and back to his wife who stares at her son in disbelief.

"It’s not a vision Laura. Our son’s really home," Luke grinned.

"Lucky?" Laura stands from the couch and approaches her son, forgetting that Nikolas and Elizabeth are there. "Is it really you?"
"It’s really me mom," Lucky smiled, a tear welling up in his eyes. There were times when he had thought he’d never see his mother again, but here she was in front of him.

"Oh Lucky!" Laura embraces her son tightly, tears freely streaming down her face. "Lucky!" She pulls away from Lucky, but still holds tightly onto his arms. "We all thought you were dead. What happened."

"Helena and Cesar Faison happened," Luke answered. "The whole fire was a set up. Helena and Cesar had set the whole thing up. For Helena we all know it was revenge. I’m still trying to figure out Faison though."

"Revenge? Oh my God Lucky I’m so sorry," Laura hugs her son again. "I’m so sorry you had to pay our problems."

"It’s okay mom. Besides the beatings, they were pretty decent to me," Lucky tries to smile for his mother. "I’m fine and I’m home."

"Oh Lucky," Laura whispered, touching her son’s face, making sure he was real.

"I’m fine mom. I’m fine," Lucky reassured her.

"Thank you," She turns to Luke. "Thank you for bringing our son home."

"Don’t think me Laura. It was the Prince here. Lucky had managed to contact him and he came straight to me with the goods," Luke nods to Nikolas, her blushes with embarrassment. He didn’t really want to take any credit for Lucky being home. He was just glad to have his brother back.

"Is this true?" Laura turns to Nikolas and looks back at Lucky.

"Pretty much," Nikolas shrugged.

"I can’t tell you how happy I am this moment," Laura smiled at both her sons. "I never thought I’d be this happy again."

Lucky smiled tiredly. It was a long trip and it had about zapped all his energy. He’d do anything for a nice soft bed right about now. Laura must have saw this in his face, because her hand flies to her mouth.

"You must be exhausted. I’ll go upstairs and get your room ready and then you can go up and get some sleep," She turns to the stairs.

Lucky stops her by putting a restraining hand on her arm. "Mom that’s not necessary. I’m not staying."

"What?" Laura turns to stare at her son.

"Well…it’s just that…things never really did get resolved around here . I just don’t feel like this is home anymore. It wouldn’t be right for me to stay here," Lucky sighed.

"Well then where will you stay? Your father’s apartment. Surely you can’t go back to that awful boxcar."

"He can stay with me," Nikolas steps up. "There’s plenty of room and besides, I kind of already have a room prepared for him."

"I can’t do that Nikolas," Lucky shakes his head. "I’d be intruding."

"Not as much as Elizabeth has already," Nikolas laughed, ignoring the sharp look Elizabeth threw him. "Besides, it’d be fun, the free of us sharing a cottage. Come on Lucky. Say yes. Move in with me."

"I don’t know," Lucky sighed. "It’d mean seeing each other every single day and putting up with each other’s habits."

"Lucky, I rather deal with your bad habits then deal with the grief of losing my only brother," Nikolas looks Lucky straight in the eye. "Please Lucky. Move in with me."

"You won’t give up til I say yes will you?"

"Nope."

"Elizabeth will be there too?" Lucky grabs her hand.

"If she’s not sick of my snoring by now, she’s welcomed to stay," Nikolas nods.

"Well then…ok. Fine. I’ll move in with you. But on one condition, keep the opera music to a minimum," Lucky laughs.

"Amen to that," Elizabeth grinned.

"Okay fine. No opera music,’ Nikolas shakes his head in amusement.

"This makes me so happy. Both my sons under the same roof…even though it’s not mine," Laura hugs both her sons.

"Humph," Luke grunts.

"Dad be nice," Lucky turns to his father, who was frowning intensely. "It’s better Nikolas’s than the boxcar or Jason’s old penthouse like Sonny offered. Right?"

Luke nods. "Of course. Plus Helena won’t try another scheme like this again, as long as her grandson’s under the same roof."

"This is going to be great," Elizabeth lays her head on Lucky’s shoulder. "The three of us roommates."

"Maybe we can get Emily to move in too," Nikolas grins. "The four musketeers together again."

"Lucky, are you hungry? I have some stew left if you want something to eat," Laura looks up at her youngest son.

"Well…if it’s not too much touble," Lucky stammered,.

"Make some for Liz and I too Laura. We haven’t eaten since this morning," Nikolas followed Laura into the kitchen, leaving Lucky and Elizabeth alone with Luke.

"So Cowboy…are you sure moving in with Nikolas is what you want?" Luke asked, making a face.

"I’m positive. Dad, I know how you feel about Nikolas and I want to thank you for at least being this civil to him. It means a lot to me," Lucky goes up to hug his father reassuringly. "He means a lot to me dad."

"I know cowboy. And I promise, I won’t let this feud me and Stefan have going on come between you two. You have my word on that."

"Lucky! Liz! It’s ready!" Laura called from the kitchen.

"Let’s eat," Lucky grins at Liz, pulling her into the kitchen.
