CHAPTER
FIVE
Three days later, Luke and Roy
stand out on the runway, waiting for Sonny to arrive. It took three long days
of planning arguing and strategizing after they had figured out where Lucky was
being held. Luke impatiently shifts from one foot to the other, waiting for the
mobster to show up.
"Where is he?" Luke
grumbled.
"Don’t worry Luke. Sonny
will be here. Probably got held up with some last minute business," Roy
tries to calm his friend. "It’ll just be a couple of minutes."
"Each minute is a minute too
long Roy. Helena could have moved my boy again by now. We’ve gotta get
going."
"If there’s one thing I know about Helena Luke, it’s that she’s cocky. And
right now she’s probably at her cockiest. I mean…she’s tricked you into
believeing that your son was dead for a whole year, you none the wiser. She has
no reason to move him. "
"But Faison does. He’s not
cocky at all Roy. He makes extra sure there’s no mistakes and he’ll take off at
a moments notice, taking my boy with him. Helena be damned," Luke clenches
his fist. "If that psycho touches one hair on my son’s head I’ll…"
"Ready?" Sonny runs up
to them out of breath.
"Been ready! Where have you
been?!" Luke yells.
"Last minute business
arrangements I had to take care of. I’m sorry about that. But I’m ready now.
Let’s go," Sonny hops into his private jet and gets behind the wheel.
Luke lays a tight hand on his
shoulder. "Corinthos…I can’t afford any mistakes here. This is my son
we’re talking about. Everything has to be perfect."
"It will be Luke. It will
be," Sonny reassures his friend. We’ll go in and get Lucky out. I promise.
By this time tomorrow, Lucky will be back in your arms."
"And I’m never letting him
go again," Luke sets back in his chair and fastens the seatbelt.
"Don’t worry Cowboy. Help is coming."
Lucky sets at the table, staring
down at the untouched food, his mind stuck on Elizabeth. He wondered where she
was right now? Was she safe? Or was she devastated? Was Nikolas able to keep
her safe?
"Oh Lucky, it does no good
to starve yourself. It won’t change anything," Helena enters the room.
"Think of it this way Lucky. At least it’s over and done with now. Miss.
Webber has done gone through her ordeal and I’m sure you’re going to make sure
that there’s no need for anything else to happen."
"How can you live with
yourself knowing what you two did?" Lucky glared at the woman.
"What we did? Why Lucky, we
did nothing. It was you. You were what did it. If you hadn’t tried to escape
like that, then there would have been no reason for the rape to have been
ordered. Let’s take responsibility for our actions here Lucky."
"Go to hell Helena and take
Faison with you," Lucky glared at his captor..
"Temper temper young Mr.
Spencer. You know, I am surprised at Luke’s reaction to your death. I never
thought I’d ever see him go out to destroy himself like he did," Helena
shakes her head. "He’s become such a slob Lucky. You would have been
disappointed. Just sets in that office of his and drinks himself into a stupor.
Doesn’t even know what’s going on around him anymore."
Lucky’s face falls as he realizes
that this information has sent any hope of being rescued out the window.
"Why Lucky what’s wrong? You
look disappointed? Why I’m surprised," Helena’s eyes lighten with
merriment. "Why I thought the news of your father’s decline into his
misery would make you happy."
"I may have been angry with
him, but I never wanted him like this. I never wished this on him," Lucky
glared at her. "Just go away. Leave me alone."
"If that’s what you wish.
But I do suggest you eat. Faison is talking about feeding you only once a week,
so I suggest you make the most of this meal," Helena closes the door
behind her, just before Lucky hurls the plate of food at the door. They can
take their food and rot for all he cared. Elizabeth had been hurt again and
this time he couldn’t be there for her. And she’d hate him if she knew that it
had been all his fault in the first place. Sighing tiredly, he drifts off to
sleep, and for a couple of hours he’s happy again, together with Elizabeth and
his brother, where nothing bad could ever reach them again.
Elizabeth sets curled up in a
chair, reading a book when there’s a sharp knock at the door. Knowing that
Nikolas was taking a shower, she gets up to answer it and comes face to face
with Lily.
"So I see Nikolas moved you
in here after all. How long does it take for an apartment to be fumigated
anyway?" Lily pushes her way into the cottage.
"Nikolas is in the
shower," Elizabeth replied, closing the door.
"So? I come in all the time
when he’s showering. I’m just surprised to see you here that’s all," Lily
takes a seat. "Tell me Elizabeth, it’s been a year since Nikolas’s
brother’s death. Why are you still hanging around? I mean, Nikolas isn’t
Lucky."
"I know that?"
Elizabeth narrows her eyes. "And Nikolas is a friend, that’s why I’m still
hanging around, that’s what friends do. Not that you know the meaning of the
word."
"Oh I know plenty. Like the
fact that you want Nikolas for yourself," Lily stands face to face with
what she considered her rival.
"What? You think I want
Nikolas for myself?" Elizabeth begins to laugh. "You really are
delusional. Nikolas and I are just friends. That’s it. That’s all we’re ever
going to be. So grow up and get a life."
"You get a life. Your
apartment isn’t being fumigated! I asked Tammy and she says your apartment is
just fine! So stop this sad charade of holding on to the past and get out of
Nikolas’s life!"
"Oh you are something else Lily!
You really are! First you come in here accusing me of going after Nikolas and
now you’re here saying that I’m lying!"
"You are! Admit it! You want
Nikolas!"
"That’s enough!"
Nikolas appears at the top of the stares, glaring down at Lily. "How dare
you come in here and talk to Liz that way!"
"Nikolas…you don’t
understand!"
"I understand plenty. I want you to apolagize right now," Nikolas
crosses his arms. "And then I want you to leave!"
"But…"
"Apolagize Lily."
Lily sighs, knowing she had no
choice. "Fine. I apolagize. Ok, happy?"
"Now leave. We’ll talk about
this later," Nikolas glares at her.
"Nikolas you can’t be
serious," Lily just looks at him.
"Dead serious."
"Ok fine. I’ll talk to you later then," Lily slams the door behind
her.
"I’m sorry about that
Liz," Nikolas apolagized. "I don’t know why she said those
things…"
"Because she’s a cold witch. But that’s okay. We’re just going to have to
work on your taste in women. That’s all," Elizabeth playfully pats his
shoulder and returns to the dining room, where she was reading her book.
Nikolas looks after her, desire in his eyes. He wished things could be
different for him and Liz. He wished that she was never Lucky’s girlfriend and
that her heart was free to love him. But it just wasn’t meant to be. She is
Lucky’s girlfriend and even if he was in fact dead, her heart would never be
free to love him.
"Hey Liz!" Nikolas goes
after her. "Are you ok? I mean really? It’s been three days since the
attack…" This was the first time he’s brought up the attack, but in truth,
he was worried. It wasn’t healthy for Elizabeth to be all freaked out one
minute and perfectly fine the next. He thinks she’s really hurting, but is
trying not to let it show.
"I know that Nikolas. But what do you expect me to be? A quivering mess
like I was when I was raped? Besides, you got there before anything could
happen. So I’m fine. Okay? Now stop hovering over me like a mother hen and get
a room ready for Lucky. I’m sure he’s not going to feel comfortable at his
parents when he comes home."
"Liz…"
"Nikolas please,"
Elizabeth looks up at him pleadingly. "Drop it."
"Okay. Fine. For now I’ll
drop it, but this isn’t the end. You’re going to have to face up to it. Sooner
or later."
Elizabeth rolls her eyes as Nikolas leaves the room. Honestly, Nikolas was
becoming more like her grandmother everyday. She sure hoped Lucky got back
soon, because she didn’t know how much more of this mothering from Nikolas she
could take.
