THIRTY-SEVEN

Six months later…

Lucky stood at the window of his room staring down at the lake and surrounding woods, lost in his daydream. A daydream of finding her. The one person that made him whole. His soulmate.

"Lucky?" Anna stood behind the young man. Standing there he seemed so peaceful. So content. One would never think that for the past six months he has been living a lie…they all have. The only people that even realized the truth were probably out looking for them or believed them to be dead. "What are you thinking about, standing there."

"About her. The girl in my dreams. I can’t help but feel that she’s real and out there somewhere waiting for me. The only thing I have to do is talk dad into letting me leave to find her."

Anna smiled sadly, thinking bout Elizabeth. She wondered how the girl was holding up now? It’s been six months since they’ve been reported dead. News was it was devastating to both Elizabeth and Laura. Robert and Luke were the only ones that didn’t give up hope. That couldn’t. A part of her prayed that they’d find them, but another part, the more realistic part hoped that they stayed away. If Robert or Luke ever showed up here at the Estate…there will be hell to pay and Lucky didn’t need anymore bad memories. It was a blessing that he had forgotten all of the others.

"Your father only wants what best for you Lucky. It’s best that you stay here. Where you’re protected and guarded from harm. Out there…believe me it’s not a friendly place."

"But it’s where she is and where I want to be," Lucky sighed, turning to face the woman he thought of as his mother.

"What if you do go out there and never find this dream girl of yours?"

"oh I’ll find her. This feeling is too strong for me not too. Do you think you can convince dad to send me to collage or something? He always listens to you."

Anna sighed sadly. "Not always. And definitely not about this. Don’t you think I’ve already tried talking him into allowing you to leave this place, but he’ll hear nothing of it. I’m sorry Lucky. But you’re not going anywhere."

"Listen to your mother. She knows what she’s talking about," Faison appears in the doorway, startling both Anna and Lucky. "You’re better off here Lucas. You will thank me for this someday."

"I doubt it," Lucky shrugged.

"What was that?"
"He said it knew it. Meaning he knew that it was useless to try to talk to you about this. Your mind’s already set," Anna quickly covered. Even though Lucky’s true personality has been repressed, once in a while it’ll pop back up and Anna was always quick to cover for it. Maybe, if left unchecked, the programming will fade and Lucky could get away on his own.

"Oh. I see," Faison stared longer at Anna then shook his head. "Be downstairs in ten minutes. Dinner will be on the table. Both of you!" Faison whirls out the door without another glance in Lucky’s direction.

"Why is he like that? And why does he insist on keeping us locked up on this estate. Not once have I been off these grounds."

"Lucky I know you hate this, but it’s the way things are and we don’t dare go against his orders," Anna sighs.

"Or else Giles there will give him a call," Lucky nods at his bodyguard, or rather guard just outside the door. "There’s no getting away from him."

"Shhh. Lucky, things will get better. I promise."

"You said that five months ago and it’s still the same."

"Lucky…where is this coming from? This restlessness?" Anna knew perfectly well where it was coming from, but she wanted to know if Lucky knew where it was coming from too.

"Life mother. I want to experience it. I want to go to school and have friends. You know I had this dream that I did have friends. That there was four of us. And we were gather around this table in this diner laughing and having fun. It was so real…I could almost touch it…I’d give anything for that to be real. Anything."

"Oh Lucky," Anna bursts into tears. "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry."
"Ten minutes are up!" Faison’s voice floats up.

"Come on. Father’s waiting," Lucky sighed, pulling away and follows Anna down the stairs.

Port Charles…

Elizabeth Webber sighs forlornly as she wipes down the counter at Kelly’s. For the past six months she had thought and dreamt of nothing but Lucky. Lucky when they first met. Lucky and her at the baccanellia. Her and Lucky on Valentine’s day and her and Lucky dancing. Her reunion with Lucky the first time.

"Elizabeth?" Nikolas comes in and becomes concerned when he spies one of his best friends staring off into space.

"Nikolas?" She comes back to reality. "I guess I zoned out again."

"Liz…"

"Nikolas don’t bother. I try to stop thinking about him but I can’t. It’s so unfair. I had just gotten him back! Why can’t Faison just leave us alone! Why does he insist on taking Lucky away from me!" She bursts into tears.

"I miss him too Elizabeth. I can’t believe that he’s gone for real this time…"
Elizabeth sighed. "That’s the thing. I don’t feel that he’s gone for good. It’s like it was after the fire. I feel that he’s somewhere right now but is unable to come back to me. That’s why I’m kind of relieved that Luke and Mr. Scorpio’s out looking for him. Lucky’s out there. I know he is."

"Well I hope you’re right. I hope Lucky is out there…but…I find it hard to get my hopes up and I wish you wouldn’t get yours up either."

"Oh believe me, I’m not. If Lucky’s gone for good…I’ll get through it. But for now…I can’t let go. I just can’t,"Elizabeth goes back to wiping down the counter. "I won’t let go until I get undeniable proof. Like a identifiable body. How’s Laura holding up?"

"How do you expect? She just got her son back just to have him taken away again. She’s destroyed."

"Damn it Nikolas. Why did this have to happen? Why did we have to lose Lucky just when we got him back. It’s so unfair."

"I know. But I’m sure Lucky would want us to begin moving on with our lives Liz."

"Yeah, if he was dead…I don’t know. I know from all the evidence he’s dead. But that’s what the evidence said before and he wasn’t. So you see why I can’t believe now?"

"Of course. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop living too."
"…I dream of him Nikolas. Did you know that? He keeps asking me to wait for him. That he’s trying his best to come home, it’s just taking longer. I know it’s a dream, but a part of me believe it’s something else. Like somehow his soul is reaching out towards me. Letting me know that there’s still hope."

"Oh Elizabeth," Nikolas’s voice is full of pity as he took her trembling hand. Both look up when a dejected Luke and Robert stumble in, bags slung over their shoulder.

"No lucky?" Nikolas asked.

Luke shook his head. "No sign that the cowboy is still alive…that those bodies were fakes."

"We’re just going to have to face facts, both Anna and Lucky are gone," Robert bowed his head, his heart breaking into a trillion pieces.

"No! No you can’t give up!" Elizabeth comes out from b ehind the counter. "Lucky is still out there. I know it. I feel it. Please…you can’t give up!"

"Liz honey…we have no choice. Plus I have a daughter to raise…I can’t go on a goosechase anymore. Believe me, if Cowboy was still out there, I’d find him, but he’s not darlin. He’s gone," Lucky gently pulled the sobbing girl into his arms.

"I’m sorry. I’m so sorry."

"No no no! Nikolas tell them! Tell them Lucky’s still out there!"

Nikolas only bowed his head, tears spilling from his eyes. "Liz. Come on I’ll take you home. You can rest," He pulls her from Luke and unties her apron.

"Take care of her Nikolas," Luke bit back his own tears as the young man led her to the door.

Nikolas only nods than takes Elizabeth to his jag. "Shhh it’ll be alright."

"No it won’t. He’s out there Nikolas…I know he is."

"Shhh."

*

Elizabeth stands at the window looking out over the bustling street and up into the night sky. Looking hard she spots a single star in the sky and sighs wondering if Lucky maybe looking up at that very star.

Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you, That is how I know you go you

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, in an estate hidden away from prying eyes, Lucky stood at the window thinking about the girl from his dreams. She seemed so real to him…he felt like she was more of a memory than a dream. If she really did exist…was she thinking of him like he was of her? Looking up at a single star that glowed in the sky, Lucky closed his eyes and imagined himself with someone like her.

Far across the distance And spaces between us You have come to show you go on
Elizabeth closed her eyes, remembering how things had changed for her and Lucky. How he had become her best friend and protector all at once and now he needed the same thing and there was no one but her. She wished she knew where he was. Was he scared? Hurt?

Near, far, wherever you are I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Where was the girl now? Was she happy? Sad? Thinking of him? Did she even know he existed? Maybe Faison was right. This was all foolishness and best be forgotten. But in the dreams, her love was so real…a love he was dying to experience himself.
Love can touch us one time And last for a lifetime And never let go till we're one
Elizabeth sighed. "Oh Lucky where are you. I need you so much. Please come back to me."

Love was when I loved you One true time I hold to In my life we'll always go on Near, far, wherever you are I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door And you're here in my heart And my heart will go on and on
Sadly sighing, he knew that it was no use to dream of a girl he was never going to meet. His father was never going to let him leave so he’ll never meet the girl. Elizabeth. That’s what her name would be. His father couldn’t keep him here forever and when he did let him go, he was going to search for his dreamgirl. Faison wouldn’t be able to stop him. "I promise Elizabeth, I’m going to find you and marry you. Soon we’ll be happy."

Elizabeth closed her eyes and smiled. She felt like she had just received a promise from Lucky just by looking up at the star. Feeling better and more patient, Elizabeth headed for home. She was now determined. She was going to wait as long as it took for Lucky to return to her. And when he did, they’ll begin with their wedding plans immediately.

You're here, there's nothing I fear, And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way You are safe in my heart And my heart will go on and on
