Chapter Thirty-ONE
Two days later. Back in Port Charles.
Night has fallen over Port Charles and only two figures walk along the dock hand in hand. Lucky and Elizabeth, both caught in their own world.
It’s been two who days since Lucky’s assassination attempt on Robert Scorpio and the guilt was eating at him. He had always thought he was pretty strong willed. That no matter what Faison wouldn’t break him. But he had and he had ordered Lucky to kill his father’s best friend. How can Luke or Elizabeth for that matter ever forgive him? Sure they said they weren’t angry and there was nothing to be sorry for. That they knew that it was all Faison, but a little voice in the back of Lucky’s head kept telling him that they were lying. That they did blame him. That they hated him for what they did and no matter how hard Lucky tried to ignore this voice, he just couldn’t.
Elizabeth was thinking about how much Lucky had changed. He was now more withdrawn then ever. She wished he would let her comfort him, but he wouldn’t and she was afraid to push. So she letted him have his space. As long as they were together she was happy. She just wished he could let go of what happened and be happy too.
"Lucky, you’re quiet," Elizabeth looks at him. He turns to look at her and there are tears in his eyes.
"What do you want me to say?"
"Anything. I love you, I hate you…anything. Do you blame what happened on me Lucky? If you didn’t have me to worry about, none of this would happen. "
"No Elizabeth. I don’t blame you. It’s not your fault. I only have being a Spencer to blame."
"Well isn’t this sweet. Two lovebirds together again," Faison steps into their path and crosses his arms. He purposely glares down at Lucky. "You failed me young Spencer. Scorpio still lives."
"Leave him alone," Elizabeth steps in between Lucky and Faison.
"Ah, Miss Webber. Alive and kicking I see and as feisty as ever. Scorpio didn’t succeed in his plans after all," Faison laughed and looks at Lucky. "May I say I’m happy to see that."
"You lied. Robert Scorpio didn’t put that bomb on that boat. You did," Lucky finally speaks up.
"Oh really? And who told you that? Scorpio? Your father? They’d both lie to make themselves look clean…"
"I told him. Lucky knows I’d never lie to him about anything," Elizabeth crosses her arms defiantly. "And you’re a monster telling him such a thing just so you can gain control of his mind."
Faison laughed. "I’ll take that as a compliment. But business is business. My plans has failed and it’s time to tie up loose ends," Faison stops laughing and looks directly at Lucky. "Protect your queen Lucky. Take a nice walk off the pier and relax after you do. Sink to the bottom."
"What? Why are you telling him that for?" Elizabeth turns around and gasps when she sees Lucky walking towards the docks, a blank expression on his face. He was actually going to do what Faison had ordered.
"Lucky! Stop! Come back!" Elizabeth yelled, running towards him. She grabs his arm and tries to pull him back, but it’s no use, Lucky keeps walking, jerking his arm out of Elizabeth’s grasp. She turns around to see that Faison had disappeared. His job was done. He gave the order and now all Lucky had to do was finish it.
Elizabeth yells and screams at Lucky to stop, but it’s no use. He just keeps on walking.
Robert Scorpio walks out towards the docks, lost in thought about how to contact his daughter Robin. He breathes in deeply and closes his eyes, picturing her as he had last saw her out near the Eiffel tower in Paris. His eyes quickly reopen when he hears Elizabeth’s cries for help. He looks to his right and far down on the docks to see Lucky Spencer heading off towards the water, Elizabeth crying for help. At the same time, he saw Faison a little miles away, dunking into a helicopter. Knowing this was bad, Robert dashes to Elizabeth’s aid.
"What’s wrong?" Robert lays a hand on Elizabeth’s shoulders.
"It’s Lucky! Faison told him to jump off the pier and sink to the bottom and he’s going to do it! I tried stopping him but I couldn’t hang on to his arm!"
"Stay here," Robert said racing off in the direction Lucky went.
Lucky has reached the end of the docks. He stares down into the black still waters. It was so peaceful there. No Faison, no brainwashing, no nothing. Things are so much calmer down there…and that’s what he needed right now. To be calm. He closes his eyes and begins to step off into the water when he’s suddenly grabbed from behind. His mind cries out as he’s once again denied some peace in his life. He struggles against the arms to no avail. Whoever the person was, was a lot stronger than him.
"Let me go!" Lucky demanded.
"No Lucky I can’t! I can’t let you do this! I know right now Faison has it in your mind that this is a better way but it’s not! Think of all the people who will miss you! Who needs you!" Robert keeps his tight hold of Lucky. The boy was stronger than he looked.
"No one needs me! They’ll all be better off!" Lucky struggles grow more violent.
"No they won’t Lucky. No one will be better off! They all need you! Especially Elizabeth! How do you think this is affecting her?!"
Lucky suddenly stops struggling at the sound of Elizabeth’s name. He turns and for the first time sees how much this is affecting her. The last time he saw her this upset was just after the rape. She had the same look in her eyes.
"Elizabeth?" He whispers, a single tear streaming from his eyes. The sight of her brought him back to himself. Confused, not remembering what had just happened only that Elizabeth was crying and that Robert Scorpio was holding him, preventing him from moving a muscle. What had just happened here?
"I think we should get him home to Luke’s," Elizabeth sniffed, wiping away her tears.
"Lucky, can I trust you not to make another go for the water?" Robert asked.
The water? What was he talking about? Lucky just nods and sighs in relief when Robert lets him go. "Faison must really have done a number on you kid." Robert’s voice was laced with pity.
"Faison…he was here," Lucky remembers. "Where did he go? What happened?"
"He left after giving you the orders to jump off the dock and sink," Elizabeth explained. "Mr. Scorpio just pulled you back from the edge."
"Oh," Lucky looks away from her and stares out over at Wyndemere. He had nothing else to say at this point. Obviously Faison’s hold on him was strong because he couldn’t remember a thing of what Elizabeth had just said.
"Let’s get him somewhere safe. Faison’s still out there. If he sees his plans hadn’t worked, he’ll be back," Robert helps Lucky to his feet.
"Where are we going?" Elizabeth asked,
"What do you say to taking Lucky home to that cottage. I’m going to go have a conference with Luke on what to do about Faison. The man is taking the extremes now," Robert said.
"Ok. Be careful," Elizabeth said, taking Lucky’s hand and leading him away from the docks.
"I’ll be fine. Just you be careful Faison can be anywhere by now!" Robert called after the two teens, shaking his head. Luke was going to freak when he heard this and he’ll freak even more when Robert suggests how to handle the situation, how to keep Lucky safe. But Luke will accept it if he truly loved his son.
Robert finds his old friend nursing a glass of scotch on the rocks and smoking a cigar in his office, his eyes were far away, deep in thought.
"Don’t you know those things will kill ya?" Robert nods to the cigar in Luke’s hand.
"Well, we all have to go sometime," Luke shruggs. "So what’s on your mind Scorpio? It’s not everyday you stroll into my office looking like the world’s about to come to a end."
"I just saw Lucky and Miss. Webber down by the docks," Robert said. "You owe me one once again Spencer."
"What? What are you talking about? What’s going on with Cowboy?" Luke sets his drink down and scoots closer to the table.
"Faison was down on the docks and gave Lucky the order to jump off the dock and sink. Elizabeth tried to stop Lucky but she wasn’t strong enough. I pulled the kid back just as he was about to take the plunge."
Luke explodes. "What! And where’s Faison?!"
"I don’t know. The last time I saw him he was getting into a helicopter. But believe me he has spys everywhere and it won’t take long for him to be notified that his plan didn’t work and he’ll be back, most likely to finish the job himself."
Luke’s fist flies down onto the desk his eyes burning with rage. "Robert we have to take him out before he has a chance to get near my kid again! I can’t lose Robert! I won’t!"
"Don’t worry Luke, I have a plan. A plan you won’t like, but it’ll keep Lucky safe until we kill Faison. So far it’s kept Anna and me safe."
Luke gets chills. He has a idea of what Robert was going to suggest and didn’t like it. He didn’t like the idea of being separated from his son again, just when he’s gotten him back. "You want to take him on the run with you and Anna. Right? Is that your idea?"
Robert nods. "You know me too well."
Luke shakes his head. "The kid has spent most of his childhood on the run from the mob, going from place to place from pillow to post. I don’t know if I can ask him to do it again. And this time, without his parents to keep him company."
"But he’ll be safe Luke. That’s the important thing. He’ll be safe. Of course there can be no contact because Faison may have bugged your phone, but this will ensure Lucky’s safety plus we can work at undoing the brainwashing."
"He won’t leave her you know. He won’t leave Elizabeth again, those two have been separated enough."
"She can come with him if she wants to leave her life here behind. Would she be willing to do that?"
"For Lucky she would. But what about Laura. She’s just gotten her son back…to take him away from her now…it’ll destroy her," Luke stammers.
"I think Laura’s a lot stronger than you give her credit for. And so are you. You’d do this to keep your son safe wouldn’t you Luke?" Robert knew he hit the nail on the head by the dimmed light in Luke’s eyes.
"I’d do anything to keep my kid
safe…even if it means giving him up. But Robert…there has to be another
way…"
"There is none Luke. If there was I would take it, but there’s none. If
you want you son alive, he’ll have to disappear."
Tears spring to Luke’s eyes. He sighs shakedly, trying to keep from crying. "When do we run this past Lucky?"
"As soon as possible. Him and Elizabeth should be at the cottage now. Want to call Laura and have her meet us there? I’ll call Annah. If Lucky agrees to this…we’ll have to leave immediately. No waiting. No stopping."
Luke only nods. "Alright. Fine. Let me call Laura. Oh and Robert…you better take care of my son. Nothing better happen to him. That’s the only reason I’m going along with this…to keep him safe."
"I’ll guard him with my life," Robert nods in agreement, his heart going out to his friend. He knows the hell Luke is going through right now. He’s going through the same hell being separated from his own daughter.
