CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

He failed. That’s Lucky’s first thought when he opened his eyes and stares up at the white ceiling. He failed not only Elizabeth but Lulu as well and now Robert Scorpio was still alive and he can strike out at his sister anytime he wanted if Lucky didn’t get to him first. He tries to get out of bed just to discover that he’s handcuffed. He was stuck.

Hearing the rattle of the handcuffs, Luke instantly wakes up and smiles when he sees his son struggling with the handcuffs. "Going somewhere Cowboy?"
Lucky glares at his father, his anger rising. So this was where he was all the time he and Elizabeth needed him. Here protecting Robert Scorpio, not giving a damn about what was happening to his son. Well Lucky wasn’t surprised. The man raped his mother, the fact that he cared less about his son was not out of the unusual.

"Well what do you have to say?" Luke asked.

"Go to hell," Lucky growled, turning away to continue with his struggle to get out of the handcuffs.

Luke pushed down the all too familiar ache in his heart. A ache he hasn’t felt for two years. He wondered what he did this time to cause Lucky’s anger. "Cowboy…would you like to explain where that came from?"

"No. I have a job to finish before Lulu ends up like Elizabeth thanks to your friend," Lucky mumbled.

"Before Lulu ends up like Elizabeth? Lucky what are you talking about?" Luke is confused.

"Don’t tell me you don’t know what he did to Elizabeth! That he blew her up on that boat! I saw it happen!"

"And you believe Robert was behind this? Why? Who told you such a lie?" Luke asked, then slaps his forehead and closes his eyes. "Faison. Of course. The bastard has you believing that Robert was the one that blew up that boat."

"Don’t call him that! Faison cared more about what happened to me than you ever did!"

"Lucky how can you say such a thing? You’re my only son…I love you."

"Then why didn’t you come for us? Why didn’t you save Elizabeth? Why did you let her die knowing how much she meant to me?!"

"Lucky…"

"I don’t want to hear it! I don’t want to hear from you at all! Let me go!"

Luke sighed, looking far more older than he actually was. "I can’t do that Lucky. We have to keep you here until we can undo what Faison did to you."

"He did nothing to me! He just told me the truth and taught me how to deal with my enemies! Now let me go now!"

"No," Luke shakes his head getting up from his chair. "I’m sorry but I can’t do that. I can’t risk you hurting yourself or anyone else."

"You mean hurting Robert don’t you? Don’t you think I have a right after what he did to Elizabeth? Wouldn’t you do the same if it was mom?!"

"Lucky…Robert didn’t hurt Elizabeth. He’d never do anything to hurt her. You have to believe that. Don’t let Faison manipulate you like this," Luke stands up from the chair.

Lucky laughed sarcastically. "Gee dad, aren’t you the master manipulator? Aren’t you the one who had convinced mom that it was perfectly ok that you raped her? Didn’t you convince me that it was perfectly ok that you two have a family together and that all Cassadines were evil?"

"I thought we already came to an understanding of this Lucky. The rape was no longer an issue between us."

"Well then you thought wrong. How could you even think that I’d forget what you did to my mother. I mean I almost did when you first rescued me…but then Faison thank god talked sense into me and made me see that no matter how you cut it, it’s still wrong."

"What does Faison know! Damn it Lucky that’s the past!"

"A hell of a lot more than you!" Lucky glares at his father.

Luke sighs, dejected. "Lucky…tell me…what happened? How come Faison is your new hero?"

"Because he’s never lied to me like you have."

Luke laughed. "Oh really? Just remember, it was him that told you Robert killed Elizabeth. I’ll leave you alone right now. Give you a chance to think about your actions and what was said here. I’ll be just outside if you need anything."

"I won’t need anything from you," Lucky looks away from his father, exhausted from fighting.

"Fine. Suit yourself," Luke shrugged, before leaving the room, locking the door behind him.

"Luke?" Elizabeth and Nikolas get to their feet, curious about all the yelling coming from Lucky’s room.

"…Well…the good news is he’s awake," Luke forces a smile. "Bad news is…he’s convinced that Robert here killed Elizabeth here. That was the reason he shot at you."

"What?" Robert gets to his feet. "What gave him that idea?"

"Faison," Anna takes Robert’s hand. "Faison probably had him witness that boat explosion and told him that Elizabeth was dead and that Robert was behind it."

"Devastating Lucky," Nikolas glares at the ground. "He would have believe anything Faison told him at that point."

"Damn! That bastard brainwashed my son!"

"Luke calm down," Sonny tries to comfort his friend.

"Don’t tell me to calm down Sonny until it’s your kid in there ok?" Luke shakes off Sonny’s hand.

"Can I see him?" Elizabeth’s voice is so low that she’s barely heard and she wrings her hand nervously.

"Uh Liz…I don’t think that’s a good idea right now," Nikolas moved in front of him, noticing that no one else knew what to say to her. "Uh…Lucky is pretty much disoriented right now. It’s best if we just leave him alone to think about what’s just happened. You know, clear his head some."

Liz nods, forcing back her tears. "I understand. I’ll just stay here until it is a good time." In a zombie like trance, Elizabeth goes and sets in the leather chair she was occupying before.

"I really think we should make her go home," Robert whispered to Luke. "Just in case Faison shows up she won’t be in the middle."

"She already is in the middle Robert," Luke sighed, glancing over at Elizabeth who was now staring at her hands. "Besides, she may be our only hope of getting Lucky to come to his senses and see Faison for the lying snake he is."

"So you think we should let her see him? Luke do you honestly think that will help?"

"Robert, he thinks you killed his girl. If he sees her alive and breathing…he’ll have to admit that Faison’s a liar and that we were right. It’s just a matter of when we let her see him. I mean Liz has been through enough in the past three years. She doesn’t need to see her boyfriend losing his mind."

"It’s your call," Robert shrugs. "But tell me this, what if seeing her doesn’t help? What if Faison’s hold on Lucky is that strong?"

"That’s what Kevin and Alan are for. Speaking of which, where are they? They should have been here by now."

"Sorry we’re late!" Kevin and Alan come rushing into the room, medical bags in hand. "Traffic was a killer. Some idiot ran into a semi. Can you believe that?"

"Well just thank god you’re here. Lucky’s awake and furious. He’s been trying to escape for the past ten minutes now," Luke leads Kevin and Alan into the room.

"What do you want?" Lucky glared at the three men that have entered his room. Knowing that it was useless, he has stopped trying to get out of the handcuffs.

"Hey Lucky. Good to see you again," Kevin cheerfully greeted, ignoring Lucky’s angry glare.

"I want to get out of here!" Lucky demanded.

"Sorry kiddo. Can’t help ya there. We’re just here to make sure you’re healthy. Boy that’s quite a shiner you’ve got there," Alan looks at the bruise forming under Lucky’s left eye caused by Luke’s right hook from earlier.

"Compliments of my loving father," Lucky sarcastically replied.

"I had no choice Cowboy. You know that," Luke shakes his head.

"Say Ah Lucky," Alan takes a stethoscope out of his medical bag.

Lucky did as directed. Thirty minutes later, the physical examination was over. "A perfect bill of health," Alan announced.

"So Lucky. How did Faison treat you?" Kevin asked, setting down at the side of the bed.

"Great. He was more of a father to me than Luke here was," Lucky cruelly smiled over at Luke, who’s heart was breaking at that minute. He was having a hard time reminding himself that this wasn’t Lucky’s true feelings. That he was brainwashed by Faison.

"How was he a father to you Lucky?" Kevin asked.

"I don’t know," Lucky shrugged. "He was always there. He never took off the moment things turned tough. He was always truthful with me. "

"Oh was he now?" Luke crosses his arms, not being able to resist. Hearing his son sing Faison’s praises was too much to handle.

"And he never interrupted when I talked!" Lucky glared at Luke.

Kevin turns to Luke. "Luke…maybe it’s best if you left the room for a while. Give me and Lucky some time alone. Get to know one another. It’s been a awful long time since we spoke last. Don’t you agree Lucky?"

Lucky didn’t answer. He just glared at Luke.

"Anything you say Doc," Luke was a broken man. The one person he loved more than anything in the world hated his guts and he could feel his whole world coming apart. He never needed a drink more than he did right then.

Once outside the room, Luke collapsed and sobbed for the whole mess. Everything was his fault. If he thought his adventures would cost him his son, he would have gladly letted the Cassadines and Faison take over the world. But now it was too late. He was paying the ultimate price for going against the rich and powerful.

"Luke?" Robert tries to comfort Luke, but he shakes him off as he gets to his feet.

"Just leave me alone Robert! Just leave me alone!" Luke dashes out the door, not knowing where he was going or why. Just that he needed to get away from the situation for a couple of hours.
