CHAPTER TWELVE
Elizabeth yawned as she sat at the table the next morning, sipping a cup of coffee before she had to leave for work, the conversation with Lucky last night still heavy on her mind. What exactly did Cesar Faison do to Lucky that made him get so agitated when the subject came up? How bad was Lucky emotionally scarred and how long before it would all come out?
"Liz?" Nikolas comes down to see Elizabeth staring off into space. "How did it go last night? Did he talk to you about Faison?"
Elizabeth shook her head. "All he didn’t even want to talk about it. He practically begged me to drop the subject. Nikolas I’m so worried about him. What could have been so awful that he doesn’t want to talk about it?"
"A lot of things Liz. A lot of things."
"Good morning!" Lucky greets, coming into the kitchen. "Everyone’s up early."
"Morning," Nikolas smiled. "So you had a good time yesterday Lucky?"
"It was great. Thank you. Both of you. Seeing Emily again…plus horseback riding with you…it was great."
"Well like Stefan said, anytime you want to go riding, you’re welcomed. Just let me know."
"Thanks bro," Lucky smiled and look at Liz. "Good morning Elizabeth," He pulls her out of her chair and into a bear hug.
"Lucky," Elizabeth laughed. "you’re in a good mood."
"Of course I am. I’m back home in Port Chuckles with my family and the woman I love. I have no reason to be in a bad mood," Lucky grinned, pulling away to look in her eyes. "Baby what’s wrong? You look worried?"
"Oh nothing. I’m just wondering if there’s a way to get out of working today. I rather spend the day with you," Elizabeth lied, kissing him tenderly.
"Well I’ll just have to have a talk with Aunt Bobbie then. See if she can give you another day off," Lucky kissed her again, and if she can’t, I’ll just hang out there until you get off. I have nothing better to do anyway."
"Besides trying on those clothes Liz brought you and see what needs to be taken back," Nikolas reminded.
"I can do that tonight when she gets off," Lucky grinned.
"No Lucky, Nikolas is right. Try on the clothes first, then come to Kelly’s, speaking of which, if I don’t hurry I’ll be late," Elizabeth looks at her watch.
"Hey I’ll walk ya!" Lucky follows her, grabbing his jacket. "It’ll give me a chance to catch up with Aunt Bobbie before she leaves for work."
Elizabeth smiled, as Lucky took her hand and led her out the door, both forgetting to say good-bye to Nikolas, who just sets at the table smiling, happy that both Liz and Lucky didn’t have any problem finding their way back to each other.
Faison taps his pen against the hard oak table, scratching his head as a plan formed in his mind, a infallable plan to get revenge on Robert Scorpio for taking his Anna away from him. Now the only problem was getting his hands back on the Spencer kid. Lucky was the perfect candidate. Luke Spencer had taught his son well. Lucky was cunning, sly, able to slip in and out of sticky spots and determined. He was also loyal. Willing to do anything for the people he loved. He knew how to track people and how to shake someone if they were following him and how to hide and not be seen. Yes, he was the perfect one to complete his utimate revenge. The only problem was getting Lucky away from his old man again and bending the kid’s mind to do his well? Past experience has shown that Lucky Spencer was not a easy kid to break. But he will break Lucky, in everyway concievable. And then, once Lucky was under his control…he’ll set the final stages of his revenge into motion and will be forever rid of Robert Scorpio, and maybe his best friend Luke Spencer.
"So boss. When do we strike?" Three muscle bound men stroll in to the room, each had violence shining in their eyes.
"Give it a couple of more weeks," Faison smiled. "Let the Spencers enjoy their son for a couple of more weeks, then we make our move."
"Yes sir," The men nod and leave the room. Faison just sat there, a evil grin spread across his face as he looks at a picture of Anna Devane. "Soon my sweet. Soon I shall avenge you. Robert Scorpio shall pay."
Luke is setting at his desk, struggling over his books once again when Lucky enters, a smile on his face.
"Hey Cowboy! What brings you in? I
thought you’d be spending time with Nikolas and the little lady."
"Just thought I’d drop in," Lucky grinned. "And maybe ask for
some advice…about Elizabeth."
"Oh really? And what advice would that be?"
"This," Lucky takes out a box and opens it to reveal a sparkling diamond. "What do you think?"
"Nice. A little expensive."
"Nikolas loaned me the money," Lucky shrugged. "But what do you think? Is it too soon to ask her to marry me? Or should I wait?"
"Wooh Cowboy! This is a big step. Are you sure you’re ready?"
"Dad,I’ve been ready for the past year. It’s time for me to move on with my life with Elizabeth, and this is the first step. I just wanted your opinion."
Luke looked into his son’s eyes and not only the eyes of a man in love, but the eyes of a tortured young soul. What did Helena and Faison do to him?"
"You love her son?"
"More than anything."
"And you’re sure this is what you want? I mean marriage is a big thing."
"I know it is and it’s not like we’re running away first thing tomorrow. I just want to do something that’ll bind us together forever. Showing that we’re invincible sort of speak," Lucky smiled.
Luke laughed, remembering when he thought the same thing about Laura and himself. He still can’t believe that it’s over, that his angel was with Stefan Cassadine. But life went on and it was time to go on with his. "I think it’s a great idea. But just promise to make it a long engagement. Don’t jump into anything without thinking."
"Promise," Lucky sticks the ring back in his pocket. "Thanks dad."
"Anytime Cowboy," Luke grinned at his son and motions to the chair in front of his desk. The same chair that his hallucinations of Lucky always sat in after the fire. "Take a seat. Talk to me. We really haven’t had a good talk since we came back to town."
"Well what do you want to talk about?" Lucky takes a seat.
"Oh nothing much. Just about the past year of hell that the hellcat and her lacky put you through."
"There’s nothing to tell dad," Lucky fidgets in his chair. "There really isn’t. They kidnapped me, locked me in a room and told me a bunch of lies. Nothing else."
Luke looks closely at his son and instantly knew he was lying. What ever those two did to his son, it was so bad that Lucky wasn’t about to talk about it. "What is it son? What was did they do that was so bad that you’re shutting it out?"
"What are you talking about dad? I just told you. There was nothing else," Lucky gets up.
Luke watches his son, at a lost at what to do next. He couldn’t just let Lucky leave like this. He had to get him to open up, before this thing completely destroyed him. He decides hitting Lucky straight on like this was best. He couldn’t dodge him forever. "Lucky…that’s a lie and we both know it. I know Helena and I had friends who have dealt with Faison’s type of torture. What did they do to you Cowboy? What’s gotten you so riled up?"
"Nothing! Which part of nothing don’t you understand?! Why is everyone all on my back about the past year? It’s in the past and that’s where I want to keep it! Let it go!"
"Lucky yelling won’t make it go away and neither will denying whatever happened ever happened. Talking about it, facing up to it…that’s the only thing that will make it go away. Believe me son, I know from experience."
"You don’t know anything. You don’t know one damn thing about the past year so don’t even try to say you do," Lucky growled. "Elizabeth’s waiting. I have to go."
"Lucky!" Luke gets up, calling after his departing son.
"Later dad!" Lucky waves, not bothering to turn around, disappearing out the door.
Luke collapses back into his chair and drops his head into his hands. Something was going on with his son and he didn’t know what to do about it or how to help. All he could do was set back and watch his son suffer alone.
Elizabeth takes off her apron as her shift ends. She searches the restaurant and smiles widely when Lucky enters. He smiles widely when their eyes met.
"Lucky!" Elizabeth runs into his arms and gives him a tight hug.
"I told you I’d pick you up didn’t I?"
"Yes, but after a whole year away from you, seeing you here…it’s still a surprise," Elizabeth grinned, but frowns when she notices the grim look in Lucky’s eyes. "What’s wrong?"
"Oh it was just another argument with my old man. Nothing for you to worry about," Lucky brushes a strand of hair away from her eyes.
"Lucky…"
"Let’s go outside," Lucky quickly pulls her out the door and has her set at the table outside the door.
"Lucky what are you up to?"
"Trust me. Now close you eyes," Lucky instructs.
"What?"
"Close your eyes. I have a surprise for you."
Elizabeth sighed, a big smile on her face.
She closes her eyes. "Okay. Fine. Now what?"
Lucky takes the ring out of his pocket and holds it up in front of her.
"Marry me."
Elizabeth opens her eyes wide in shock and sees the sparkling diamond. "Oh Lucky! It’s gorgeous! How did you afford it?"
"Nikolas loaned me the money," Lucky grinned. "Will you Elizabeth? Will you do me the pleasure of becoming Mrs. Lucas Spencer Jr.? I know that this is out of the blue and I promise, we’ll wait until you’re truly ready to walk down that aisle. Just make me the happiest man on earth for right now and say you’ll be my wife."
Elizabeth smiles through her tears, not believeing what was happening. He wanted to marry her for real. He wanted them to be together forever. "Yes Lucky. Yes I’ll be your wife!" Elizabeth falls into his arms, crying tears of joy.
"You’ve made me so happy Elizabeth. Happier than I’ve been in a long time," Lucky smiled, tears of joy streaming from his own eyes. "We’ll always be together. I promise."
Meanwhile, in a little black room, five hours away from Port Charles, Cesar Faison sets in front of a group of monitors, showing different areas of Port Charles. He zooms in on one scene in particular and turns on the sound. It’s in front of Kelly’s, Lucky Spencer has just promised the lovely Miss. Webber that they’d always be together.
"Ah Young Mr. Spencer. You shouldn’t make promises you aren’t going to keep," Faison grins evilly before clicking off the monitors. He’s even more eager to start his plan now. It was going to work perfectly. Robert Scorpio was not going to know what hit him.
