DARKENING OF A NEW DAY

(SEQUEL TO A WHISPER IN THE DARK)

1

It’s been two happy and peaceful years for the Spencer family and friends. Luke and Laura never did get back together and each were happy in separate relationships. Nikolas had introduced himself to the beautiful brown skinned girl at Lucky and Liz’s reception and both fell deeply in love. Emily had dumped Juan and was now dating Zander, Sonny Corinthoes new go to guy, much to her family’s dismay. And now that Faison was dead, the Scorpios decided to make their home in Port Charles. Anna soon became pregnant two months after Faison’s death and now they’re the proud parents of a baby boy named Chance. Luke and Laura are the Godparents and Lucky and Liz drop in to babyset every now and then. And as for Lucky and Elizabeth they had lived happily in marital bliss for the past two years. Neither had thought it was possible to be as happy as they now were. Little did they know that everything they held dear and loved was about to change.

Elizabeth Spencer sat in her studio listening to the afternoon news as she painted the next billboard for Deception, her mother in law’s new company. Painting was her second love, her husband Lucky came first. At first it was a hobby, but soon enough, that hobby began making money for her. She sighed happily when something on the television caught her attention. It was a man being let out of a jail cell by two prison guards, a very familiar man.

"Good behavior is the reason predator Tom Baker is being let out of Prison. He was a famous photographer for downtown faces and was thrown in prison for blackmailing model Emily Quartermaine. More information at nine," The anchor explained.

"Oh my God," Elizabeth gasped at the news of her rapist being set free. She couldn’t believe that after all he did they were letting him go.

Putting down her brush, she dashed out of the studio and headed for L and B, where Lucky was now working as a computer specialist/song writer. She found him in his office deeply absorbed in the computer screen before him.

"L-Lucky," She managed to stammer, tears streaming from her eyes. Lucky glanced up and frowned in concern.

"Elizabeth what’s wrong? What happened?" He asked, getting up from his desk and going to her. "What’s going on?"

"They let him go. Tom’s free out on good behavior. I saw it all on the news."

"What?! When did this happen?"

"Just now," Elizabeth sobbed. "He’s out on the streets again Lucky and this time there’s nothing to stop him!"

"Shhh Elizabeth. Calm down. He’s not going to hurt you again. I won’t let him," Lucky rubbed her back.

"Hey what’s going on in here?" Nikolas came up behind Elizabeth.

"They’ve let Tom Baker out of jail," Lucky explained.

"What?! Why?!"

"Good behavior," Lucky explained. "Hey we better tell Emily. She’ll want to know about this."

"I’m also calling Gia. I want to know why her big brother didn’t warn us that the slimebag was being let out," Nikolas stormed off.

"Let me finish up here and then we’ll go find Em. Ok?" Lucky pulled away from his wife who weakly nodded.

"I’ll just set over here," Elizabeth took the first seat against the wall. She forced a smile as Lucky smiled reassuringly at her as he began signing out.

Helena Cassadine stood on her yacht waiting for her guest to arrive. It was very important that he showed up. He was key to her revenge against the Spencers.

"Mrs. Cassadine, your guest has arrived," one of her manservants bowed then ducked out of the room. Soon she’s standing in front of a tall man with a dark complextion and shifty brown eyes. She didn’t trust the man and knew he was a very undesirable person and lacked the skills and know how that her other henchmen suchas Cesar Faison and posessed. But this man was key to her plan.

"Mr. Baker I assume," Helena nodded her head.

"Why am I here?" The man looked about the yacht.

"We have a great many things to discuss. Follow me. Do you know who I am?"

"No," Tom Baker followed the elderly woman deeper into the boat. Soon he’s seated on a pulsh couch and she’s pour them drinks.

"I am Helena Cassadine."

"Cassadine? I knew someone…"

"Yes my Grandson. He was one of the teens that put you behind bars for blackmailing Miss. Quartermaine. Very grostesque may I add."

"Hey listen, I was just joking. I never meant to send that picture of him…"

"Silence!" Helena snapped. "I will not have you interrupt me while I’m speaking. Is this in anyway unclear?"

"No," Tom shook his head.

"Good. Now where was I? Oh yes. I need you Mr. Baker. As you need me."

"And how do you figure that?"

"Money and reputation Mr. Baker. I can give you all those things if you help me. You see I know a great deal more about you than you realize. Like you’re the rapist of young Elizabeth Webber. The prosecution was just too lazy to prosecute you for that."

"They have no proof of that! It’s her word against mine!"

Helena laughed. "Elizabeth Webber Spencer is a very well-liked woman in Port Charles Mr. Baker. You are a sexual predator and a blackmailer. Who do you think they’re going to believe?"
"What do you want me to do?"

"Help me. Help me get revenge against the Spencers. And once that’s done, I’ll set you up in another city with new references. You’ll have a whole new life."

"And how will you keep those kids from talking?"

"I have my ways. You’ll see. Now to my plan, set back and listen."

Gia and Taggert were at Kelly’s waiting for Nikolas. Taggert’s not surprised to see anger in the young man’s eyes as he enters.

"Nikolas what’s going on?" Gia got to her feet.

"I want to know why we weren’t warned," Nikolas glared at Taggert. "We had a right to know that slime was being set free. Yet poor Elizabeth was caught off guard when she turned on the news to see him being set free!"

"Who?" Gia asked.

"Tom Baker."
"Who’s Tom Baker?" Gia looked at her brother.

"Rapist/blackmailer," Taggert sighed. "Nikolas and his friends helped put him away a few years back. I’m sorry Nikolas but I wasn’t at liberty to share that information."

"What?! The man who blackmailed my best friend and raped my brother’s wife was set free and you weren’t at liberty to warn any of us about that?! I thought you were our friend!"

"I am Nikolas."

"Liz trusted you!" Nikolas ranted. "We all did!"

"Nikolas shhh. Calm down. Yelling is not going to help anything," Gia rubbed her boyfriend’s arm.

"After all Lucky and Liz have been through and now they have to deal with this."

"Nikolas believe me when I say I’m sorry. If I could I’d make sure that Baker was kept in jail forever, but I’m powerless in that department. I’m sorry."

"Yeah? Well so am I. I should have killed the bastard when I had the chance," Nikolas snorted, pulling away from Gia and storming out the door.

"You better go after him Gia. I don’t want him to do anything stupid," Taggert warned.

Gia nodded. "Later," She rushed after her boyfriend.

Lucky and Liz found Emily at the Quartermaine’s boathouse, waiting for her new love Zander to arrive.

"Hey guys what’s going on?" She asked, then notices the look in Elizabeth’s eyes. "What’s wrong?"
"Em…they’ve let Tom Baker out of jail for good behavior," Lucky explained. "Elizabeth saw it on the news a couple of hours ago."
"What?! After what he did to me? To Liz? To all of us?!"

"Emily I’m sorry," Elizabeth hugged her friend, beginning to cry again.

"Shhh Elizabeth. It’s not your fault. Man, I can’t believe they’re letting him out. Oh my God, he must be angry at all of us. He’ll be out for revenge."

"I know," Lucky nodded. "Elizabeth and I have talked it over and we think it’d be safer if you come stay with us for a while? At least until we know what he’s going to do."

"What? But Lucky…I should be safe here at the mansion. Believe me, grandfather and the others never let me out of their sights for very long and when I’m not with them I’m with Zander. He has Sonny’s men on him all the time. So there’s nothing to worry about. How about Nikolas?"
"I don’t know. We haven’t had time to talk about it," Lucky shrugged.

"Why is this happening Lucky? Wasn’t that whole ordeal with Faison enough?" Elizabeth looked to her husband who was just shaking his head.

"Obviously not."

Emily hugged her friend. "Don’t worry you guys. Everything will be fine. Tom can’t get to us anymore."

"I hope you’re right Em. I hope you’re right," Elizabeth sighed sadly.
