One whole month had passed since Nikolas’s rescue from Helena and
there has been no sign of her yet. Nikolas has recovered nicely from his
ordeal. He now was of a healthy wieght and his strength had returned. He was
even given a private room and taken off the feeding tube and respirator. The
only thing still ailing him was the constant nightmares. Nightmares of Helena
leaning over him, touching him, kissing him…he would wake up screaming just to
be faced with a empty dark room. So far his only constant visitors were Lucky,
Stefan, and Laura. He had outright refused to see Emily when she came by. Lucky
had tried to talk him into changing his mind, but Nikolas couldn’t be moved. It
was easier this way, he had said. No teary good-byes. It had worked with Sarah
and hopefully it’ll work twice as well with Emily.
It was a Saturday morning when he decided that it was time to
disappear. Lucky and himself were all alone. Elizabeth had to work at Kelly’s
and Stefan had business. Laura had taken Lulu to the park. Luke of course kept
his distance, having a warning from Lucky to stay away from his brother. Lucky
was at the moment leafing through a magazine while Nikolas slept. Nikolas
awakes out of his restless slumber and just stared at Lucky until Lucky closed
the magazine.
"What?" Lucky looked at him.
"It’s time Lucky. We have to get out of here. Tonight."
Lucky gaped at his brother. He didn’t think Nikolas would want to
move so soon after his recovery…at least he hoped he didn’t. Lucky still had
yet to tell Elizabeth and convince her to accept the admittance to New York.
"Tonight? Isn’t that a little soon?"
"Soon? Lucky it’s been a month! We’re lucky that Helena
hasn’t made her move weeks ago! We have to leave now. Time is running out.
Helena’s waiting until we’re all off-guard and I can tell Stefan is becoming
more relaxed…"
"But…"
"You haven’t told Elizabeth yet have you?"
Lucky shook his head. "It’s not from a lack of trying Nikolas. It’s just
that…she looks at me with those beautiful eyes of hers and I’m putty. I
couldn’t break her heart…"
"Well if you’re going to have to tell her this evening.
Before you come and break me out of here. We have no more time to spare. I’m
well enough to travel now. And if I know Helena…she’s waiting for this right
moment. She’s coming soon Lucky. I can feel it. Tell Elizabeth when you pick
her up from Kelly’s. Then get back here so we can head back out. I’ll be
waiting."
"How about Em? Aren’t you even going to say good-bye to
her?"
Nikolas shook his head. "It’s easier this way Lucky. You know it is. It’s
bad enough for you saying good-bye to Liz."
Lucky nodded. Glancing at his watch he sighed sadly. "It’s
almost time for her shift to be over. I better go meet her. I’ll be back
soon."
"Hey bro…I’m sorry. But we have no choice."
"I know," Lucky glanced at Nikolas before leaving,
knowing that leaving with Nikolas was best. He just hated breaking Elizabeth’s
heart.

Elizabeth was waiting for Lucky outside of Kelly’s her arms
crossed and her eyes examining the darkening sky. She smiled as she saw his
approach and frowned when she noticed his downcast expression.
"Hey. Why the sad face?" Elizabeth went to meet him
wrapping her arms tightly around his lithe frame. "I was thinking we can
spend a romantic night at the boxcar, gazing up at the stars. Popcorn and
sparkling water included."
Lucky sadly smiled. "Not tonight Elizabeth. Ok?"
Elizabeth grew more concerned. Lucky rarely rejected a night at
the boxcar. It was their place to go when the world seemed too much for them to
handle. They could just let their worries disappear and return to the time when
everything was a lot more simpler and Helena and Cesar Faison was just a
afterthought. "Something’s wrong. Tell me."
"Let me walk you home ok? We need to talk," Lucky sighed, wanting to
get this over with, yet wanting to protect her from the heartbreak that was
about to happen. He couldn’t believe he was actually going to say good-bye to
the love of his life. But it had to be done. Not only for Nikolas and himself,
but for her safety as well.
"About what?"
"Elizabeth…I want you to accept that offer to the art
academy. I want you to get out of Port Charles as soon as possible," Lucky
looked at her intently. "Please, promise me you’ll do that."
Elizabeth frowned. Whatever was goi ng on with Lucky it was
serious. It was sounding like he wasn’t going to be with her for much longer.
"Lucky tell me what’s happening? Why is this sounding like you ‘re saying
good-bye?"
"That’s because…I am. Nikolas and I had discussed this. We’ve
decided that when he got strong enough to travel that we’d disappear until
Helena’s taken care of. It’s simply not safe to stick around Port Charles for
either of us."
"You mean you’re leaving? Why? I mean I know why but…you’re
going without me?"
"It’s too risky to take you Elizabeth. Helena may catch up
with us and if she catches up with us, it’ll be big trouble and I don’t want
you in the middle of it."
"Lucky, I’m already in the middle of it."
"That’s why you have to go to the Academy. As long as you’re
not in Port Charles you’re safe. Please Elizabeth. New York was our dream. Live
it for both of us. At least until I am able to join you."
"How about Em? Nikolas owes her an explanation too."
Lucky sighed and looked at the ground. "Nikolas doesn’t want
Em involved. He wants to keep her as safe from Helena as possible. He also
thinks she’ll look at him differently if she knew what happened to him."
"But that’s ridiculous."
"That’s what I told him. But he’s immovable. He wants Em kept
in the dark about everything."
"I guess that’s Nikolas’s way of handling his tragedies. He
blocked Sarah out too. Is there anything that I can say to convince you to take
me with you guys?"
Lucky sadly shook his head. "I’m sorry but there isn’t. Tell
me you’ll go to New York."
Elizabeth wiped away her tears. She didn’t want to go to New York
without Lucky. It was their place. Their dreams. Yes she was supposed to go to
the Art Academy, but he was supposed to be with her! This was so unfair. But
looking into his beautiful blue eyes, she couldn’t refuse him. He wanted her in
New York, so it’s New York she will be. "Ok. Fine. I’ll go."
"Thank you," Lucky pulled her into his arms, holding her
against him tightly, knowing that it’ll be a long time before he’ll be able to
hold her like this again. He was so sad for saying good-bye to her, but at
least now he knew she would be safe.
Every time I make a run
Girl you turn around and cry
I ask myself, why oh why?
See you must understand
I can't work a nine to five
so I'll be Gone...'Til November
"Lucky…Promise me one thing…Promise me you’ll come back to
me. As soon as Helena is taken care of you’ll come back and marry me,"
Elizabeth pulled away from his warm embrace, meaningfully staring into his
eyes.
Lucky tenderly touched her face, not knowing if he’d be able to
keep such a promise. But he couldn’t refuse her anything. "Elizabeth, as
long as I still draw breath, I promise I will find a way back to you. And I
will make you Mrs. Lucas Lorenzo Spencer Jr."
Said I'll be Gone 'Til November
I'll be Gone 'Til November
Yo, tell my girl yo I'll be Gone 'Til November
I'll be Gone 'Til November

Yo, tell my girl yo I'll be Gone 'Til November
January, February, March, April, May...
I see you crying, but girl I can't stay
I'll be Gone 'Til November
I'll be Gone 'Til November...
And give a kiss to my mother...
Girl I gotta leave, please don't cry
When I come back, you know the limit's the sky
I'll take you out to dinner, to your favorite spot
Feed you an aphrodisiac just to get you hot

If my corpse could talk then I would tell you I was sorry

"When I come back, I promise I’ll make our dreams come true.
We’ll get married, have a house and children. I promise Elizabeth. Hold on to
that. And know that I will be coming home to you. As soon as it’s safe."
Elizabeth only smiled and nodded, knowing that when Lucky promised
something, nothing stopped him from carrying it through. "I’ll wait for you
forever Lucky."
Lucky sadly smiled, hoping it didn’t come to that. That Nikolas
and himself will be back with the people they loved soon. "I’ll love you
forever too Elizabeth. "
We had nothin'
I had to do something
So I'm Knocking On Heaven's Door, like I'm Bob Dylan

"Look. We’re at the studio," Elizabeth stopped walking
after fifteen minutes of silence and walking. She knew this was where they said
good-bye, and she dreaded it. She didn’t know when she’ll see him again and
wanted to hold on to him for as long as possible.
"I see that," Lucky sighed, knowing that he must be
going. But first he wanted to make things right for his brother’s life.
"Elizabeth…about Em…tell her what’s going on when you see her next. I know
Nikolas doesn’t want her to know, but she deserves the truth. Tell her she
doesn’t have to wait for him, just that she deserved the truth. That he still
loved her…he just wanted to protect her. And if you can…take her to New York
with you. Helena knows she’s important to Nikolas and may try to use her
against him. Will you do that for me?"
"Of course. I’d do anything for you Lucky."
"I love you Elizabeth. I always will."
"I love you too Lucky. And come home to us soon,"
Elizabeth embraced him, tears streaming from her eyes, knowing that this was
good-bye. After she released him, he’ll walk out of her life and all their
dreams would be put on hold.
"Dreams of Gold Elizabeth," Lucky squeezed her one last
time and pulled away, holding her hand for one second before letting her go.
"I love you." He looked at her one last time, than turned to walk
away into the surrounding darkness, leaving Elizabeth looking after him, trying
to catch one last glimpse.
"Dreams of Gold Lucky…and please stay safe," Elizabeth
wiped away her tears and disappeared into the studio. She remained there for
the rest of the night, sobbing over her broken dreams.

Lucky returned to the hospital, his face down-casted. Visiting
hours were over so he had to sneak past the nurses station and into Nikolas’s
room. He found his brother fully clothed and setting on the edge of the bed.
"How did it go?" Nikolas asked, his voice laced with
sympathy for what his brother had just gone through.
"It was hard. But she understands. I got her to accept the
admission to the Art Academy and she may even take Em with her."
"That would be great. Helena probably knows that Em is
important to me. She’d definitely go after her. Thanks Lucky."
"Hey Em’s my oldest friend. I couldn’t leave her hanging
too," Lucky smiled. "Well come on. There’s no time to waste. For all
we know Helena may be preparing to make her move in a couple of hours. It’s
best we move out now."
"How are we leaving?" Nikolas was curious.
"Well…I lifted some cash from my dad’s safe at the club and
brought us two bus tickets to a suburb of Cincinnati called Covington. Surely
Helena has never heard of that. We’ll lay low there for a while, then we’ll
move on. I’ll give you more information on the bus. Now let’s go," Lucky
grabbed Nikolas’s duffle bag that Stefan had dropped off earlier that week and
they started out on their adventure.
Lucky would never know how right he was when he told Nikolas that
Helena was planning her next move for the next couple of hours. Dressed in
black, Helena led two men, clad in black and in ski-masks into Nikolas’s room
and was furious to find it empty.
"Where is he?!" She angrily looked around the room,
checking the restroom; she knew he wasn’t there.
"Madame?" One of the men questionably looked at her.
"He must have been checked out. He has to be in Port Charles
somewhere. We’ll find him."
"But Helena, what if he’s not in Port Charles," Cesar Faison appeared
behind his lover, his arms crossed.
"Oh he is in Port Charles. Unlike Lucky, my grandson does not
know anything about surviving on his own out in the world. He has no clue how
to disappear.
"But his brother does. What if he took the Spencer kid with
him?" Cesar stroked his face thoughtfully.
Helena laughed. "Luke Spencer would never allow Lucky to
leave with Nikolas. Besides, Lucky would never leave the side of his Elizabeth
again. Not even for his brother. I’m sure Lucky is sleeping safe and sound in
the arms of his Elizabeth."
"Check the Webber girl’s studio for any sign of Lucky
Spencer. If he’s there, bring him to us. We’re sure he knows the whereabouts of
his brother," Cesar ordered the black clad men. "In the mean time my
dear, let me show you the pleasure of a man. After all, for the past couple of
months, you’ve been doing nothing but playing with boys."
Helena smiled and allowed Cesar to back over to Nikolas’s now
empty bed, where they made love undetected.
