Luke was stationed at his desk in the club when Lucky arrived,
tired from the long day. He collapsed in the oversized chair in front of his
father’s desk.
"You look like you’ve been hit by a train Cowboy. What’s
going on?" Luke asked, pouring Lucky a shot of vodka, something Lucky came
accustomed too after the brainwashing was over.
"I just got through rescuing someone from a trainwreck,"
Lucky shrugged, not really wanting to talk to his father about his shattered
lovelife, but he needed an objective, nonjudgmental ear to talk to and his
father was as objective and nonjudgmental as they came.
"And may I ask for the name of the damsel that was in need of
your rescuing?"
"Elizabeth," Lucky sighed, taking a drink from his
glass.
Luke sat forward all of a sudden, spitting out the liquor he had
just gulped down. His blue eyes are widened in shock and disbelief. "Did
you just say Elizabeth?"
Lucky slowly nodded, not expecting the reaction he got.
"As in Elizabeth Webber? The love of your life? Main squeeze
of Jason Morgan?"
Another nodd.
"Mind telling me what this trainwreck was and why the boy
wonder wasn’t doing the rescuing himself?"
Lucky sighed. "Dad, one thing, this can’t go no further than
here. Elizabeth came back to Port Charles to regroup and doesn’t need a bunch
of people in her face saying they told her so."
"Sure thing Cowboy. My lips are sealed. Now tell me…what’s
with Elizabeth coming back and without Sonny’s beefcake?"
Lucky sighed and leaned back in the chair. "He dumped her
dad. Left her all alone in Italy with no money and no one to turn to for
help."
"So she turned to you?" Luke asked.
"Yeah. When she left I gave her my cell number and told her
to call me if she ever needed me for anything. A last ditch effort to hang on
to her I guess. I never really thought she’d use it. In fact, I thought she had
thrown it away."
"But she didn’t," Luke settled back in his chair.
"No she didn’t."
"Lucky what actually happened?"
"…Robin came back into Jason’s life and I guess he decided
she was a better choice than Elizabeth. He left her a note and that was it. No
money for rent, no money for food or anything. So she called the one person she
knew would help her."
"You."
"Me." Lucky nodded. "And of course I did. I could
never say no to Elizabeth. No matter what she did to make me even slightly
angry with her. When I heard her voice on the line, my heart stopped and it was
like the night I realized I was in love with her all over again."
"One question Cowboy. Plane tickets to Italy are mighty
expensive and I know for a fact that you don’t have that type of money and that
you didn’t come to me. Where did you get it?"
"Nikolas. I lied and told him the money was for this
well-trained deprogrammer, and knowing my brother he gave it to me no questions
asked. I knew that if he knew it was for Elizabeth, he wouldn’t have given it
to me. You remember how angry he was when she left."
Luke nodded. "Kid reminded me of his father. He’s not going
to be happy when he finds out what the money was really for."
"He already does and he’s convinced Elizabeth has me
brainwashed and I’m in need of his brotherly protection. You know how Nikolas
is."
Luke laughed. "Yes I do. Don’t worry Cowboy. I know how you
feel about Miss. Webber. I feel the same about your mother. Even though she’s
with Baldwin, I never stopped loving her and if she ever needs me I’ll do
whatever I can to help. But this whole situation must have gotten your hopes
up."
Lucky shrugged. "A part of me can’t help but hope that my
relationship with Elizabeth would resume where it left off. But I know it
can’t. Even if we got back together, it’ll take time for me to fully trust her
again."
"Do you want to trust her cowboy?"
Lucky nodded. "I do. But…I can’t. I can’t give her my heart
until I’m sure that she won’t leave again. I don’t think I can survive that
type of pain again. I’m amazed I did with all the programming that was going
on."
"We all were son. And believe me, I understand. No matter how
much you love a person, trust is a very fragile thing. That’s what broke up
your mom and me. We didn’t fully trust one another. But son…give it time. If
you and Liz were meant to be, you’ll regain that trust. It’ll take time and
effort on her part, but you’ll get it back."
Lucky grinned, glad that he came to Luke. His father always knew
what to say to make him feel better. "Thank you dad. I really needed to
get that off my chest and as always, you’re here for me."
"Anytime son. Anytime," Luke smiled as his son left. He
hoped that Lucky could find that trust again. If not with Elizabeth, then with
someone else who could love him as is. Demons and all.
