THIRTY-TWO

Two more weeks have passed and Lucky had made a full recovery. A arm was tightly wrapped around Elizabeth as she helped him back into Wyndemere.

"Home sweet home," She smiled.

"Lucky!!!" Laura rushed into the foyer.

"Laura," Lucky bent down to hug his sister.

"Lizzie said you were sick in hospital. Are you better now?"

"Much better," Lucky laughed.

"It’s good to have you home Lucky," Beth smiled, standing at the top of the stairs. "We’ve all missed you."
"So what’s been going on since I’ve been away?" Lucky asked, taking a seat on the couch.

"Ok. Stay calm. But The McCoys have appealed Stefan’s custody of Laura. By the way things look…they don’t look too good," Beth explained. "And to make matters worse, the trial date for Luke and Laura have been set."

"Oh no…why didn’t anyone tell me any of this?"
"You were in a coma for one thing. Plus you were in recovery, healing from that beating. We didn’t want to disturb you."

"Well next time disturb me! I need to know these things! Where’s dad now?"

"At the club," Elizabeth get to her feet just as Lucky stands. "Lucky where do you think you’re going?"

"To the club. Dad needs me," Lucky reached for his coat just to have Elizabeth snatch it back. "Oh no you don’t mister. You’ve just gotten home from the hospital with strict orders to rest and that’s what you’re going to do."

"But…"

"I’m sure Luke and Laura will be over sometime today and will fill you in then, but right now you’re going to march yourself upstairs and get some rest."

Lucky sighed in resignation. "Ok. Fine. Lead the way Dr. Spencer," Lucky groaned irritably.

*

Lucky stood out on the balcony outside the room he shared with Elizabeth, staring out into the horizon. He couldn’t believe how things were falling apart. His parent’s trial, Laura’s custody…how did the McCoy’s gain so much power to turn things around like this?

"Lucky? Are you ok?" Elizabeth joined him, laying a gentle hand on his shoulder.

"Everything’s coming apart Elizabeth. With Helena payrolling the McCoy’s…we’re going to lose on all sides."

"What do you want to do?"
"There’s nothing I can do but stick it out. Hopefully the judge will dismiss the charges against my parents. And the appeal of Laura’s custody will be denied. If not…"

"Shhh. Don’t think about any of that right now. Just think about us," Elizabeth turned Lucky to face her and kissed him gently. "Think about the baby and what great parents we’re going to be."

"At least Nikolas and Beth are going to be happy. She really loves him you know."

"And this is the first time I’ve seen Nikolas completely and totally happy and in love," Elizabeth smiled. "We can at least be thankful for our friend’s happiness."

"And our own…or what’s left of it anyway. I’m absolutely thankful for you Elizabeth. If I didn’t have you…I’d be lost. I would have given up when the McCoy’s showed in town the first time."

"You’ll always have me Lucky. Me and our baby. That will never change," Elizabeth squeezed his hands. "You have my heart and that’s a permanent lock. Everything I am is love with you. My mind, my body, my heart, and my spirit. Never forget that."

Lucky only smiled and pulled her close in a passionate kiss.

"Lucky! Luke, Laura, Lulu, and Earl are here!" Beth’s voice floated up to them.

"Not now," Lucky groaned. "They have perfect timing."

"That’s ok," Elizabeth giggled. "We’ll just continue this tonight when we’re alone," Elizabeth takes his hand and led him into the hall. She stops and turns back to him. "Lucky no matter what happens, I’m here for you. I took our wedding vows seriously. For better or worse. That’s us."

"That’s us," Lucky smiled and nodded, kissing her hand. "Now let’s go before the old man leads a search party up here."

Elizabeth just laughed and followed Lucky downstairs to find everyone in the setting room.

"Lucky!" Lulu exclaimed, hoping out of Laura’s arms to great her brother. "You home! You not sick anymore?"

"I’m all better,"Lucky hugged his sister back.

"I’m glad to see you’ve healed perfectly," Earl nodded. "Had me scared there for a while."

"Thanks for finding me and taking care of me. It was like old times huh?"

Earl sadly smiled. "Too much like old times. You be more careful for now on."

"Don’t worry. I will be," Lucky laughed.

"You had us so worried," Laura cried, her and Luke both embraced Lucky tightly, as if their embrace alone could keep him safe.

"If I ever get my hands on the McCoys…" Luke growled.

"Dad don’t. I think we’ve all had enough violence to last us a lifetime," Lucky sighed. "Right now I just want to be with my family. That’s it."

"Well then that’s what you’ll get Cowboy. A Spencerific evening here at the mansion of bats," Luke hugged his son.

"And dad, knock it off with the bat jokes. They’re not funny," Lucky smiled.

"Come out on into the garden," Nikolas invited. "It’s too pretty to be stuck inside all day."

"Great plan bro," Lucky grinned.

"So did your brother tell you of the latest developments?" Luke asked. The trial is next week and Custody for little Laura is up in the air."

"and Helena is financing the whole thing," Laura sighed.

"They told me. If only I could prove that it was Calvin that attacked me. That would damage their case." Lucky sighed. "But I can’t. I didn’t see them."

"I’ll testify about how they treated you all those years ago," Earl volunteered.

"And of course I’ll testify about the abuse as well and Lucky you can tell them about how they locked her up in that shed when you first met Laura," Beth nodded.

"Do you really think that’ll be enough?" Lucky asked.

"It should be. After we’re done with them, no judge in his right mind would give the McCoy’s custody. Don’t worry Lucky. Things will work out," Beth eagerly nodded.

Lucky smiled, wishing he had their confidence. "Let’s change the subject. Nikolas…about the guest list…did you finish it or is that still on the things to do list?"

"I finished it and mailed out the invitations. Hey I even invited Luke. I knew you’d want that," Nikolas smiled proudly. "Now we need to book the church and the hall."

"How do you guys feel about having it here?" Beth asked. "I mean Lucky’s wedding and reception was so beautiful…"

"Too many people honey," Nikolas shook his head. "Believe me, the Cassadine family is huge and so are our associates…not to mention our friends here and your family. We’re going to need something a lot bigger."

"How about the Pavillion. That hall they just built. And they have a beautiful garden outside, big enough to hold a whole town and then some?" Laura suggests.

"That’ll be perfect," Nikolas grinned.

"How about the food. Who will we have cater this?"

"How about the people that catered your wedding? They were really good," Nikolas suggested.

"Damn good idea," Lucky grinned.

"I’ll call them now," Elizabeth got up to head for the phone.

After all the calls and arrangements were made, the Spencer’s and Cassadines sat around the table chatting amicably among themselves. Lucky looked around the table at all the people that he cared and came to care for. They were a family it seemed, and he prayed to God that they remained that way.

"Hey," Elizabeth placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Are you ok? You’re awfully quiet."

Lucky grinned and placed a arm around his wife’s shoulder. "I’ve never been better."
